Marlene raised an eyebrow, “How about you shut up and come to terms with the fact that the world does not revolve around you?”
"Of course it doesn't. If it was, or if I had some say about how the world worked than things would certainly be a great deal different. All I want is to be left alone to have some quiet. Surely that is something you can do?"
"I didn’t say nothin’"
"Is that so? Perhaps it was just your presence that made me think that you were saying something that was a waste of my time."
How about you try to find a less crowded place if you want to be alone then the common room?
He waves a hand at the rest of the quiet common room. "Or you could visit any of the other parts of the common room besides this spot right here, and let me alone."
"That is the most I have heard you say to me ever." Peter stands stunned, wracking his brain for something smart to say. "Am I finally worthy to be spoken to?"
"Momentary lapse of judgement I assure you." Amycus says with a tight smile. "Though if you continue to irritate me I can not guarantee that it won't happen again."
"Settle down with the attitude, Amycus." Anthony nervously pats him on the shoulder. "You could have just said no."
He gives the boy a look "It has been a long day which is not yet even over. I think my attitude is just fine at this current moment. What were you even asking about again, anyway?"
Amycus sighs "How about instead you go somewhere else and leave me alone?"
"Well, your head is clearly turned in my direction, and has been for the past ten minutes. Either you have neck cramp, or you’re staring.”
"Or there's something going on behind you that I was watching. Ever think of that?"
"You know, it’s rude to stare."
"What put you under the impression that I was staring at you? Instead of trying to do something else entirely?"
"…Shoo fly, don’t bother me."
He sits down before pulling out a piece of parchment from his bag with a smirk on his face. "That's what I thought."
[His words are a slap in the face; she had never wanted space. How could he not see that? Always, forever in time, she had wanted him at her side. Under the obvious aggravation in her tone, she senses hurt, can see it in his eyes, and it subdues her.] Amycus, you have to know that they could have returned any moment. And what were we to do if they found us there? I was looking out for us.
He can see that he had made a miscalculations in his words upsetting her rather than explaining his actions. He sighed, tamping down the anger that had started to rise, afterall there was logic to her words. "Do you honestly think after two christmases, leaving us little more than a note after we had already returned to the house and that they would just turn up in the middle of night, to come check on us?"
[He is lying to her, and when has he ever done that? Does he not know she can see right through him? Suddenly she is standing, looking down at him with blue fire in her eyes, hissing her words like the snake of the house they belong to.] Since when do you lie to me? We have both been busier than this before, yet we’ve always made time for one another! Be honest with me, Amycus.
[The last of her outburst is a whisper, a defeated one as she still holds tight to the one emotion that will never truly leave her — her anger, her temper having flared. She does not want her brother to be part of the ashes in the wake of her subsequent destruction.]
He can see in her eyes that his lies had been seen through in a moment and now she was truly angry. He lowers voice not wanting to have the few others around to be privy to their conversation. "You want honesty? Fine. Perhaps I'm just giving you space after what happened during the break. Maybe I'm just a bit confused, since you've never done that." He allows his voice to go even quieter. "So there's the honest truth, Alecto, and it may seem stupid but I don't particularly care."
"Because this one, needs to get this reading done. And honestly, I know your type, if you had anything you really needed to get done, you wouldn’t be over here talking with me."
"And you just assume that I wasn't trying to get work done when you started talking? Honestly I thought reporters were supposed to gather their facts before making assumptions."
[His question causes her to look back up at him, just catching his smile as it fades away. Her serious expression mirrors his.] You’ve been distant since the holidays. What do you want me to do? Beg your forgiveness at your feet?
He shakes his head, taken aback for a moment. "No... no, of course not, there's certainly no need for any of that. Perhaps you're over reacting a tad, we've all been busy lately." It wasn't completely lie, after all in the state the castle sat one had to be busy just to get anything done.
"Hardly the point. It’s bothering me, and I have things to get done. Why don’t you run along and hex some firsties? Not like you’re accomplishing anything but being a bother.”
"If it's not bothering the many than what should I care of about the one? Besides... how do you know that I'm not trying to get something done and you're bothering me?"

[The moment the word hippogriff leaves Amycus’ mouth, Alecto is holding back snickers and settling instead on a smirk.] How riveting, brother. [She smiled a teasing smile.] You know me so well — hippogriffs are repulsive and dull. [In the short moment of silence that follows, she senses that there will be a far less than welcomed change of subject and responds with muttered words, the rain outside the window suddenly fascinating.] “You do know me well. Too well.”
"After seventeen years of being your twin I would hope I know you well." He smiled though there is little happiness in it. "So... what exactly is troubling your mind, Alecto?"
“Or you could quit disturbing the peace. Always an option.”
"I don't hear anyone else complaining about noise. Besides, it's hardly my problem you're disturbed."
