Been playing with stable diffusion to generate fanart. This one of Aang is my favorite so far. They're basically all AU, since getting a blue arrow tattoo on a forehead completely eludes me haha. But on the bright side, it's really fun to imagine the worlds these characters would exist in.

Okay no this dumb anti aang argument needs to die because it’s like. Did you just miss the entire part of a season 1 episode where Aang was like: “we need this… or two waterbenders” HELLO!!???? And the way Katara looks at him and the way she obviously feels so seen at this moment. With him telling her STRAIGHT UP that she is a warrior, a waterbender, and to own it right now to push that ship🥰🥰

Another moment I find sooo cute and telling is when they’re about to follow some fire sage which thy truly have no idea could be dangerous or not and guess who he looks at for approval, for guidance, for wisdom. a testament to how much he values their judgement. KATARA. She is his Sifu long before she realises. She has no idea how much he respects her.

The way this is all so untrue. Aang viewed Katara as his friend first, which is why he didn’t address her as Sifu. Unlike Toph and Zuko, who both joined the group to teach Aang and be his Sifus, Katara didn’t do that. Aang clearly respected her as a bender, though, and viewed her as his teacher. He just didn’t address her as Sifu until she asked because they had a much deeper bond than that. But he puts that deeper bond aside to honor a teacher/student relationship, hence the “bitter” in bitter work.

Aang recognized her as his Sifu long before he addressed her as such. When Pakku says “these scrolls will help you master waterbending, but they are no substitute for a real master”, Aang looks over at Katara and smiles. When she feels insecure in her bending ability, Aang says “I’m lucky enough to have a great teacher”. He gives and shows her respect as a fellow bender, especially when they move that ship together. Even tho Aang could easily move it himself, as a master airbender (the youngest master airbender in history, a prodigy), even tho he could move it himself he instead takes that moment as an opportunity to give her a confidence boost. Like… Aang doesn’t have to do all this for her. He does it cause he loves her and knows how she wants to be shown love.
