Primal fear (1996) review (spoilers)

For the sake of my enjoyment of the entire movie I am going to choose and interpret that last ending scene very differently from what the movie probably entends. Because there is no way they spend 3 hours building a story around systemic abuse, corruption, and the psychological fallout on a victim, only at the end to go : "YOU FOOLS ! y'all got played and he's just an evil piece of shit. Just your regular type of psychopath killer who's "smart" enough to fool everyone in the room including that arrogant lawyer and that one psychiatrist. Don't you know people with DID are most likely faking it ???" like omg such a cheap asss plot twist and what a way to undermine your own story....

So what I am going to do is to choose and beleive that Aaron/Roy does have DID and Roy either just straight up lied to the lawyer to fuck up with his head, orrrr he ended up taking over Aaron completely, because that would make way more sense than whatever they tried to sell us at the end.

how i feel realizing that my headcanon of aaron/roy actually being a system could hypothetically be true because it's possible that after the case was dropped roy pretended that he faked it to protect aaron and aaron still exists

the fact that there are people who truly do believe that aaron just killed rushman to kill rushman and also that he just manipulated marty to manipulate marty makes me a little upset. i won't fully get into what i believe the ending was because i'm afraid of publicly stating any unpopular opinion however i will say that if you fully believe that aaron wasn't justified in what he did you kind of suck..

also you couldn't pay me to believe that aaron's disassociate identity was not in fact real. you can't trick a psychologist that spent 60 weekly hours with you and gave you multiple brain scans to the point where they testify under oath that you have that disorder AT ALL. the bishop's murder was premeditated, meaning roy isn't just violent and unstable but also scheming, so the little scheme, the "slip up" with the prosecutor's neck at the end was entirely plausible even with DID. and we can 100% see moments in aaron's past that indicate the existence of an aaron (i.e. not immediately crashing out at the bishop during the recordings.) his DID formed while he was homeless, or whatever his life was like before the age of 10, because that's the limit medically, but it probably started showing up more brutally after his more recent abuse.
