It was a joking text that she’d meant to send to a close friend from school. Who, coincidentally, was listed in her contacts right after Jai. And, as it would happen, Lian didn’t quite look at her phone as closely as she should’ve when she’d sent it.
When her phone blinked that she had a reply, she instinctively opened it with a much similar attention to detail. Or lack thereof.
Aaaaand then she saw the message.
Staring at the phone in abject horror, she realized what the name at the top of the screen said. She wasn’t sure she had it in her to text anything in response, the embarrassment was far too great, but she kind of had to, right? If she didn’t say anything it would probably be even weirder the next time she saw him.
But what was she supposed to say exactly?
[ sms; jai ] how do you know i didn’t want to share the glory of my stripper underwear with you?
She realized immediately after she sent it what that sounded like and hit herself in the forehead. She was making this worse wasn’t she?
[ sms; jai ] i mean i didn’t [ sms; jai ] i didn’t mean to send that to you, clearly [ sms; jai ] please promise me you deleted the picture [ sms; jai ] and that you’re never going to tell anyone about this ever [ sms; jai ] especially any of either of our relatives [ sms; jai ] on pain of death
alright surprise first smooches are alright but next time ur thinkin abt ur ship think about the “can i kiss you” scenario bc
kiss is then definitely 100% consensual god bless
hhOW DO THEY ASK?? are they nervous do they have to repeat it bc the other ones just “what??” do they stutter
is there time in between the response where they just look at each other and th eyre so nervous
how do they respoND how do they say yes is is a series of nods do they just blush like hell???? do they smoOCH THEM INSTEAD OF RESPONDING
since they r both more prepared for smooch its longer let s b real
opens up opportunity to ask to kiss again, which, is also cute
“can i kiss you” scenario is so much bettr ok???

“ You made me your sidekick, so don’t make me kick you in the damn side. ” Lian argued, her tone light. She understood why he would want her to leave--she’d taken a pretty stupid risk earlier and ended up with a pretty nasty graze on her side. But she wasn’t losing enough blood for it to be a serious issue, and she was still in top form for taking out scumbags. “ I know you’re pretty cool and all, and you probably don’t really need my help with this situation, but I meant what I said-- I’m not leaving you. Partners. Don’t. Leave.” She flicked an arrow out of her quiver, getting herself in a position that said she was ready to fight, “ Tell me what the plan is, GA. ”

“ You know that none of us condone any of those things,”
He keeps his voice calm, steady, void of any judgement, free of any tone that might come across as harsh or disapproving. He tries to keep her anchored, tries to sew all the love he has for his niece into each small syllable. He’s terrified of what might happen if he fails to convey even an ounce of how much his words are for her && not against. Terrified of how this could end–and not just because of the obvious bad outcome.
“ But you also know that I can’t condone murder. Especially not like this. He’s unarmed, beaten. He can’t even defend himself. I can’t make choices like this for you, Lian, no one can. But if you decide to walk the path of a killer, I will at least see you be an honorable one. ”
He doesn’t want to, but he readies his bow. Sets his sights to intercept–maybe split her bowstring. He knows the gesture seems final, like he’s making up her mind for her, but he can’t run the risk of her being quicker to fire than he is to draw. It didn’t mean he would stop trying to talk. He’s still certain that if he can just make her think for a few seconds, she’ll realize she’s acting out of emotion instead of reason. It’s an emotion that he knows he can’t hold against her–the man in question was certainly vile–but that didn’t change the situation.
It didn’t change the fact that Lian was ready to kill.
It didn’t change the fact that Connor was not willing to let her make that mistake.
&& it definitely didn’t change the fact that he’s not ready to see the teen walk away from him estranged.
“ You know what happens if you shoot him, Speedy. I can’t let you use that bow to take a life. Please think about what you’re doing. ”
The blood in Lian’s veins suddenly seemed too loud, too hot, too fast. She wanted to scream, wanted to scream until Connor understood, but he was being so damn rational himself that her own temper was simmering down. She was losing purchase, spiraling into nothing other than frustration && despair over what she’d witnessed today. She’d liked the anger better, it was more comfortable, easier to deal with. This feeling that was left was just hard && mucky && it was dragging her someplace she didn’t want to be. Someplace that was conflicted over her own convictions, conflicted over everything she’d ever know && everything she’d ever been.
The tears in her eyes were still stinging her. A few fell. But she wouldn’t let it become more than a few.
She refused to give in to the urge to cry like a little girl.
She wasn’t a little girl anymore.
She was a fighter.
She was a hero.
But that was the problem, wasn’t it? That was what she couldn’t bring herself to reconcile--what kind of hero would let this man walk from here? Just how many evils had they turned over to the cops just for them to get out a month or so later, or not get convicted, or... or...?
“ That’s the point, ” she breathed, not changing her stance, not lowering her bow, not giving even a hint of evidence that she might be changing her mind. “ He is unarmed, beaten, defenseless. Just like his victims. Why should I afford any honor to those who have none themselves? Why should I be more merciful than he was? I’m calling in the debt. Blood for blood. ”
Her gaze burned hot, but there was something beyond it. Something vulnerable. && that vulnerability sharpened to a terrible edge when Connor drew his bow. She was too lost in the moment to see it as anything more than a signal that the conversation was over, that there would be no more words. The need to scream intensified, the need to yell && shake && hit && claw until everything made sense again, until the images of small, broken bodies chased out from behind her eyes && laid to rest someplace safer, warmer, loving. She let out a small choking noise, a strangled something. Killing this man wouldn’t give his victims their lives back. It wouldn’t take back the suffering he’d inflicted, it wouldn’t make anything better except maybe she’d be able to sleep tonight knowing there was one less monster under her bed.
She turned her eyes away from Connor, gritting her teeth && keeping her bow steady.
“ I do know what happens if I shoot him, Green Arrow... ” she turned her body quickly, flipped, shifted stance, “ but I wonder ” from where Connor was positioned relative to her, now, he didn’t have a clear shot at her string. Her body was in the way. She’d left him with a choice to make, “ if you do. ”
She took the shot.

ikr? those are sooo pretty but like i think they’re hard to maneuver?
they areeee! they look so n i ce but i just don’t have the mind to sit down and fudge with moving things around and getting them to sit right.
and sometimes they bug me just a lil bit too because they’re so static that like. if they’re positioned too far to the right, or too far down, they can make it hard for people to access links or posts if they’re on a smaller screen size than what it was optimized for. i follow a few people whose links I can’t access because their themes don’t sit right on my little screen. OTL

“Don’t shoot him. You’re better than that.”
The arrow was aimed. It was nocked. All she had to do was release.
&& it would be easy. So incredibly easy to put her arrow straight into this scumbag’s eye && stop him from hurting anyone else. She wanted to, god she wanted to, so when the voice at her side oozed with reason instead of the primal instinct she was currently feeling, she couldn’t help the way that her gaze moved toward the source–predator slow.
“ Better than what, ” she hissed, the words a breath of unconstrained emotion, “ better than the guys we fight? I know that I am, that’s why I’m doing this. Because I don’t condone the butchering of children. Because I don’t condone the battering of women. Because I don’t condone dragging innocent people into testosterone fueled murder fetish fantasies! ” Her grip on the bow tightened, the leather of her gloves making the action audible.
“ Or did you mean that I’m better than killing? Because I personally don’t see the problem with… with… taking out the trash. Do you really think people like this actually deserve due process && the opportunity to trick the system into letting them back onto the streets? ” Her voice wavered, && the fingers on the bow string shifted ever so slightly. That gaze didn’t falter, although it was now punctuated by the sting of unshed tears. Staring down her friend && partner, Lian swallowed hard, but didn’t lower her bow, didn’t even reduce the tension of the draw.
“ So what if I do shoot him? ”

most of these are darker and/or more serious starters. trigger warnings my apply with some of these!
“You promised me you wouldn’t go back to this life.” “But they were unarmed!” “Is this really how you want everyone to remember you?” “Don’t shoot him. You’re better than that.” “Is this really worth losing your soul?” “We’re supposed to be the good guys.” “I know your little secret.” “I should have known better than to trust you.” “Once a killer, always a killer.” “Were you planning to betray me the whole time?” “I would try the diplomatic approach, but I can see that won’t work with you.” “I don’t understand why you did this.” “Why would you throw your life away?” “If you kill them, I’ll kill you.” “So much for non-lethal force.” “No one warned me I would be dealing with a cold blooded killer.” “Funny. I don’t remember cracking bones sounding like that.” “Do you even regret it?” “You’re such a disappointment.” “What’s the matter? Are you squeamish?” “This time, you’re all out of warnings.” “It’s just a little blood.” “I knew you wouldn’t be able to follow through with this.”
