Writeblr Introduction

Hello, welcome to my writeblr! My name is Abbie and my pronouns are she/her. I am a 23 year old undergrad student pursuing a BA in English and Creative Writing. I created this blog to not only share my writing, but to engage with other writers as well!

About my writing

The genres I write most often are: Dystopian, thriller, mystery, crime fiction, and romance.

My goal as a writer is: I have been interested in beginning some sort of fantasy novel, so my goal is to try and branch out into other genres!

Some fun facts about me

My favorite genres to read at the moment are mystery, dystopian, and thriller.

I have 3 cats :)

Outside of writing, some of my hobbies include knitting, cooking/baking, drawing, and singing.

My coffee order is a large iced caramel macchiato.

My big three zodiac signs are: cancer sun, leo moon, and libra rising.

In addition to my busy schedule, I am also planning my wedding with my fiancé!

One by One

When you picked that flower,

the one with the blooming maroon petals,

you ceased to notice the thorns upon its stem.

Ever so gently they pricked your delicate skin,

and your finger cried tears of crimson red.

Cursing the flower, accusing its design of fault,

you plucked the thorns from its stem.

One. By. One.

When the flower lay bare and began to wither,

you continued to prune each newly formed bud.

Once its petals began to blacken and wilt,

you confined it in a vase, to let it die of thirst.

The flower, in its final choking breath,

cursed its thorns, damned its design,

and praised each dried up petal as it fell to the ground.

One. By. One.

An Elegy to the Man in the Moon

In this fluorescent light hospital room,

I sit in stiff blue chairs, eight months the same.

Today your heartbeat sang a single tune.

I’ll make sure the world remembers your name.

Not on carved stone, where the wildflowers bloom,

In stories standing still, hung up in frames.

On dark nights, I pretend you’re the moon,

Cutting obsidian with your pale haze,

Watching me drive, to light your way home too.

Okay but it's the little things in writing that are the most fun

This one line foreshadows something the readers will never pick up on. This setting uses a specific colour scheme but SUBTLY cos there's no illustrations. This character never uses contractions

Bibliophile

I remain next to you like a shadow,

In exile, pleading for a passing glance.

Haunted by the ghosts of your afterglow,

These hallways used to sing songs of romance.

This once-novel love has become hostile,

I could analyze your words for ages.

In truth, I admit, I'm a bibliophile,

Looking for confessions in blank spaces.

Someday these pages will begin to turn,

Until then, I carry this grief alone.

You will be another lesson I can learn,

One about glass houses and tossing stones.

In your heart, you’ll know that it’s time to leave,

When the silence feels like good company.
