20 years? Wow. I wasn't here from the start, it's interesting to think how long Hetalia has been going.

And the fandom has created a thousand versions of these guys over twenty years!? Every version of them feels so different, fic-to-fic and fanart-to-fanart, everyone has a different take on the same set of characters, but they all feel right-- I don't think this fandom ever ends because Hetalia has an infinite ability to evolve. It's the everything fandom. Sometimes they're cats, sometimes they're evil, in one fic they're superheroes, in another they're fighting a war. We've got constant mix-and-match ships and multi-ships. They can be brothers or sisters or parents or complete strangers. We do it all, and we do it in the same day. So for the 20th anniversary I wanted to draw the first eight hetalia characters surrounded by things other people have drawn them with. I scrolled through a lot of fanart, took some favourite motifs and some common themes, and here. I couldn't fit anything close to all 20 years of a thousand versions and AUs and headcanons in the art, but I wanted to do something to capture at least a little bit of that. Anyway, thanks to everyone who's ever added to the mix-- and thanks to Hima for setting the canvas.
