Back in elementary school we had these book reports where we had to pick a story we were drawn to then share what we learned from it with the class. It was one of my favorite things to do because I not only got to write but also illustrate my presentation with markers, construction paper and whatever else I could find.

So one of the first stories I chose was Snow White. I don’t remember a lick of what I wrote because before I even got to it, I started being questioned about my cover. I only drew what I saw in the book. But the day came for it to be shown and with a marker I made one last minute adjustment.

The other kids barely seemed to notice the change but adults crowded around in the hallway, perplexed and wanting to know why I made the main character that way.
