The sand in Okinawa, Japan contains thousands of tiny “stars”. These “grains of sand” are actually exoskeletons of marine protozoa, which lived on the ocean floor 550 million years ago.

19th century French keepsake: Braided human hair, beads, ribbon, and a lithograph of the Christ child.
Likely a nun’s, made from her own hair, which is cut during the investiture ceremony when she takes the veil. The cutting of one’s hair represents the renunciation of the world and its vanities.
