I’ve been writing a Hunger Games prequel fic! The first 2 chapters are up. Pretty sad, fairly gay, very much interested in the alienation of labor and imagining what life in an urban, industrialized district would look like:)
Some Eugene V Debs quotes on war that have been standing out to me lately:
“When Wall Street yells war, you may rest assured every pulpit in the land will yell war. The press and the pulpit have in every age and every nation been on the side of the exploiting class and the ruling class.”
“The ruling class owns the nation, controls the government, and waxes fat on the spoils wrung from the working class. Let the ruling class fight their own wars and defend their booty. The workers they have despoiled owe them no allegiance or protection and the workers themselves have nothing to protect but their poverty and nothing to lose but their chains.
“It is our duty to enlist in our own war and fight our own battles. But first of all we shall have to organize, equip, train and drill our army, l and this army consists of the industrially and politically organized workers of the land, and when capitalists declare war on one another, it is then for us to declare war on them all, paralyze industry by the strike and fight every battle for the overthrow of the ruling class and their ravaging, plundering, war-breeding, man-killing, heart-breaking, soul-destroying system, and for the emancipation of the working class and the brotherhood of peace of all the world.”

i hope you know that i adore you, scholar ✶ ✶
It interests me that Nona seems to enjoy the smells of human cities and especially its pollution. She is described as taking breaths of "fresh" air that's full of fumes like car exhaust, burning, plastic,, when outside around the city.
picturing griddlehark college/otherwise normal aus is so fucking funny. like. you meet this lesbian couple, right. one of them is on a full sports scholarship, she's big, beefy, a little lacking in social skills but obviously happy to try. she swears every other sentence, has a poster of megan fox in transformers in her bedroom like a 13 year old boy. she's got an anime girl phone background. she wears a black choker all the time which does NOT match her otherwise purely sun's-out-guns-out-paired-with-cargo-shorts type wardrobe.
the other one is a full head shorter than her and shaped like a stick, wears exclusively big, shapeless cardigans and skirts that reach her ankles, will not speak to anyone but the beefcake in full sentences if she can avoid it, and visibly has not slept in a week. the one time you convince her to speak, she ends up insulting you in the most unnecessarily graphic and specific terms you have ever heard, gives you a look which singlehandedly curdles every ounce of self-esteem you've ever possessed, and immediately returns her attention to studying.
one day, you finally work up the courage to ask how the fuck they met and why they're dating. they tell you that they both grew up in a small-town christian cult which the stick figure's parents actually led, beat the shit out of each other daily for their entire childhoods, and finally resolved their differences in their late teens and immediately ran away together. the stick figure twitches up a sleeve of her oversize black cardigan to reveal a bracelet made of the beefcake's baby teeth that she personally knocked out of her skull. the beefcake smiles at her like this is the height of romance. the only issue they will acknowledge in their relationship is that when she was little, the stick figure fell madly in love with a painting of the virgin mary and has never quite recovered. they've been married for 3 years. they are 20 years old.
also the beefcake wears the choker because the stick figure said "no" to dog collars in public.

cocked that up. they're way too small
I’m reading NtN yet again, and this time I’m thinking about how Gideon and Pash would be such good friends if everything about their circumstances was different. Like if Gideon didn’t look exactly like Pash’s dead aunt who they worship and also if Gideon wasn’t dead and Pash didn’t hate zombies and if they weren’t on opposite sides of a war. They have such similar senses of humor and aggression and Pash is sort of explicitly butch and queer in the same way Gideon is. Just add it to the list of tragedies.
I realized another thing I hate about Paul/thing that makes Camilla and Palamedes’ transformation so heartbreaking is that Cam and Pal never say goodbye to Nona and Gideon. Pyrrha gets to say goodbye, and understands that she’s losing them, but Camilla and Palamedes never say goodbye to Gideon and Nona. And they are literally right there, sitting in the truck, watching Pyrrha kiss them and beg them not to do it. And they don’t even look at Nona and Gideon. And that’s so so sad and also feels very out of line with the Camilla and Palamedes that we have come to know and love throughout NtN.
Im working on some Judith Deuteros GtN fanfic right now and I’m having so much fun
If you’re feeling bad about your body
May. I suggest The Club
Everyone is hot there. No one looks like the conventional beauty standard and everyone is hot. And that means you are hot too
May I further suggest dancing high and alone at the Club

We have 30 days until the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) laws are rescinded. This is the 50-year bedrock of American conservation. Normally, these actions take years but the administration has provided 30 days for public comment gutting clean water and clean air. Drop what you’re doing, before you make any more calls or read any more social media posts, please populate the Federal Register with dissent.
A. Go to https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2025/02/25/2025-03014/removal-of-national-environmental-policy-act-implementing-regulations
B. Click on the green rectangle in the upper right corner ("SUBMIT A PUBLIC COMMENT") .
C. Fill in your comment, and info at the bottom, and SUBMIT COMMENT.
I just did that (2/27/2025), and the message on that website said:
The comment period ends March 27, not March 30!!!
I strongly suggest (in your own words) couching your dissent in Trump's (and followers') own rhetoric. Here's what I said:
Removing these regulations will make America sick again, cause neurological and intellectual impairment in children (due to less regulation of lead), and raise the level of preventable cancers in adults (due to less regulation of known carcinogens),thus reducing American productivity and greatness.
Start your morning by fighting stupid and being a problem for Google 🙄:
finally tried my hand at a twin cinema poem and yaowza !! took me a couple hours to figure it out but i'm very happy with this one and i wanted to share. you can read gideon and harrow's thoughts separately to see their perspectives on their own and each other's actions, and putting them together supposedly reveals the truth of the lengths they would go to but can't communicate to one another :3
i just think that a form where they are talking to one another without hearing any response and yet are intertwining so perfectly is deeply on theme and makes me ill
also sorry for image quality i formatted this on canva and idk how to put such a complex form into an image description so apologies </3
why is privacy so eroded. I get treated like a nutcase if I say no, I don't want strange companies taking pictures of my home and putting them online for maps or whatever. I don't want to be in the background of your tiktok, and I think it's weirder for you to assume I'm okay with it than it is for me to politely ask you to refilm it so my face isn't in the frame. I don't enjoy handing my employer a list of every online account I have and feeling under surveillance when I'm just shit posting or sharing pictures of my cats or garden harvest. I don't want to hear your private calls on speaker on the bus, esp when the person on the line doesn't know you're broadcasting their words to strangers. I don't want an algorithm guessing what will piss me off the most so I spend more time online, engaging with shit I don't want to see or hear out of outrage. I don't want any of this. it's total ass.
Today I re-entered the US (I’m a citizen) and I invoked my right to not be photographed at passport control. They asked for a drivers license as well as my passport and they asked me why I didn’t want to be photographed. I was like bro because it is my right and I value my privacy. But yeah why do we live in a “nothing to fear if you’ve nothing to hide” culture. It’s deeply sinister.
