street photography got a generation of men thinking that the concept of a stranger walking is a inherently compelling photo subject, rather than understanding street photography as a genre of deliberate compositional experiments and cultural snapshots
an instagram photo influencer should ask themselves "are the contents of this photo more meaningful than the act of publishing stranger's faces online?"
and come to face with the fact that no, a stranger walking under cyberpunk neon city lights on a rainy night is so meaningless that it's indistinguishable from a thousand existing AI generated images
no righteousness + no might = a worm
righteousness + no might = a fool
no righteousness + might = a beast
righteousness + might = a hero of justice
The Shipwreck on Northern sea (1865) by Ivan Aivazovsky
The children's show villain is a figure who sadly is not seen outside the children's show. There are few stock characters who as succinctly declare, from sheer stage presence, "the world is unloveable and it is painful to live here; that which delights mankind is like ash on my tongue" without being too fucking whiny about it.
maladaptive suicidal ideation: "i'm going to kill myself"
productive, growth mindset: "i'm going to steal all the instruments from Musictown!"

One thing that has always been so weird to me is that when people talk about the “egg prime directive” shit, if they are for it, they always seem to end up talking about people telling public figures/ internet celebrities that they could be or should be trans.
It’s always so ridiculous to me, as the problems that come from that have absolutely no bearing on someone telling a friend, acquaintance, or even a stranger (who is NOT famous) that they might be a trans woman.
The issues that come from people telling micro-celebrities or internet creators that they are trans, or gay or what have you, are all just issues of parasocial relationships and the way that fans will read heavily into the actions and perceived nature of a creator and feel like they need to say something and need to get their message to this creator.
This parasocial behavior has nothing to do with someone (usually a trans woman who has seen similar behaviors and emotions in her pre-transition self) seeing the regular and unguarded actions and reactions of a “cis guy” in direct correspondence with them, and telling that “cis guy” that he might be happier and more fulfilled as a woman. This action saves lives, is almost always done in private or semi-private supportive circles, and can offer an outstretched hand to a girl who is drowning within herself, often numbly unaware of her own suffering.
In this scenario, the worst thing that can happen to the person on the receiving end of this advice is usually no more than having to have a somewhat awkward conversation due to a misunderstanding. The best thing that can happen is a girl is saved from a life of torment and unknown, gnawing pain.
I am in no way trying to downplay the way in which comments and conversations about a creator’s perceived gender can be harmful, especially with micro-celebrities and other creators with small audiences. The way that a creator can be subjected to what often amounts to a transvestigation of their public personas, having their life and personality and actions spread open and put under a microscope by people acting like they’re making a theory for a game character, is really damaging and creepy, and does do much more harm than good even if the creator does come out as a trans woman (usually in SPITE of any speculation by fans).
These two actions though, are completely separate, and trying to lump parasocial harassment and actions that save trans women’s lives only serve to muddy an issue and lend credence to transmisogynists who only want to see us quiet and gone.

whose definition of "graphic violence and torture" ? do we think maybe those conceptual boundaries depend on factors like the speaker's prior ideological commitments? have we ever read a censorship policy?
at what age does a child cross from innocent pre-exposed object to sullied brain adult? what is the normal age to experience or witness violence? where does that leave those who experience and witness violence at younger ages? who may never have lived a 'violence-free' existence?
do we actually think that children are ontologically incapable of being interested in violence, or are we merely so threatened by the idea they could be that we refuse to even speak the possibility?
is it the worst thing in the world to pick up a book and then decide its subject matter is unappealing, frightening, or overwhelming? is that such a foreign fucking concept? did anything scary ever happen to you as an 8 year old? did it have an instant off-switch as effective as 'close the cover and pick up something else'?
what kind of violence? is all violence the same? do all depictions of violence have the same literary merit, political meaning, or emotional effect?
being chill with it is literally a virtue

it used to be that “fascism is aesthetics as politics” was the sort of thing that took several steps to demonstrate, but now everyone in roman-column twitter says “my ideal world is this AI generated picture of a centurion driving a spaceship” and you don’t even have to draw any connections to anything they just say it out loud.
the only things we have to fear are things that are scary
