It was 105 degrees outside but nothing could possibly dry up the love and happiness that was at Julie and Dan's Big Day. Held at the Bride's parents' backyard, the rose garden setting could not have been more beautiful. PJ of Milk Glass Vintage Rentals styled the event with rustic elements that popped among a sea of clean white linen. Every last light pink Peony was perfectly placed and accented every table setting. 

For dinner, we created a custom menu of the Bride and Groom's favorite foods. It was Indian-Californian fusion: Vegetable Samosas with Mint Chutney, Chicken Curry Cones, Pork Dumplings with Apple Ginger Glaze to start. Dinner was a Slider Bar, Mango-Cucumber Salad, Chicken Tikka Masala with Basmati Rice and our 12-Hour Cabernet Sauvignon Braised Tri-Tip with Brussels Sprouts and a Roasted Market Vegetable Quinoa. For dessert the couple served their wedding cake by Cake Delight and also had us create a Torched-to-Order S'mores Bar! To drink, the couple chose to go local with Wente Vineyards and also served a signature Raspberry-Acai Kiss cocktail.

Mindy & Chris | Laurel Mill Lodge, Los Gatos, California | Photos by Bliss Fotography

It was no question Mindy & Chris wanted something truly different and very personal for their wedding. Their venue, Laurel Mill Lodge is a tucked-away haven surrounded by redwood trees just by Los Gatos. As a old summer camp, it is also equipped with cabins for guests to stay overnight-- perfect for the couple with many out-of-town guests. On the property is also a fire pit, a meadow and my favorite-- lush pear trees.

It is difficult not to be charmed by the details of this wedding-- an Atlas as their guestbook paired with a globe marked with their round-the-world route, "fortune teller" programmes and wildflowers in medicine bottles to decorate their tables.

Comfort food was key in building Mindy & Chris's menu. They wanted their guests to enjoy classic flavors sans anything "flashy." The final custom menu choices were: 

- Pre-Ceremony Beverage Bar with Lemon Tea, Peach Tea and Water, plus a selection of cookies - Bite-Sized Chicken and Waffles - Tomato-Mozzarella Bruschetta - Farmhouse Cheeses with assorted crackers, nuts and grapes - Signature Salad - Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto Gnocchi - BBQ Pulled Pork - Country-Style Mac & Four Cheese - Roasted Market Vegetables

After dinner, the couple cut their gnome-topped wedding cake and guests were treated with a selection of Mindy & Chris's favorite seasonal pies.

Are you a cheesemonger? How about ditching the traditional cake in favor of a 'cheese' cake?

Make your dessert course one to remember by offering your guests some artisan cheeses paired with grapes, fruit preserves and nuts. Delish!

Don't be afraid of prints on tablecloths! They automatically add interest to your reception and makes your event stand out. A carefully chosen pattern or color helps set the mood and ambiance.

Linens can also be a great money-saving asset when transforming a room. They cost more than the plain polyester tablecloth at the get go but this can translate into a luxe, upscale look without spending on extra expensive decor.

Hosting a post-wedding brunch is a great idea especially if you have plenty of guests from out of town. 

Mindy & Chris opted for a delicious buffet of Assorted Breads, Maple-Cinnamon French Toast, Scrambled Eggs, Sausages + Bacon and Country Style Potatoes. YUM!

You know it's summer when Peonies abound! This bunch is fresh from San Francisco. According to celebrity florist Preston Bailey, this gorgeous flower tops the list of most popular flowers requested for weddings. 

Enjoy them at home: Grab a bunch from your local Whole Foods, about $12.99 for five stems. If chosen young, they can last for as long as two weeks.
