I love how you tagged me, twin, but omf, you're so right. Like, do I pick my poor life choices in romance or healthy life choices in romance?
Both have amazing potential, but I think personal preference also comes into play with this.
With Bruce and Selina, they've known each other for years; they've gone back and forth like cat and mouse and nearly even married each other. They're exceptionally cute and a major power couple in their own way, and I love them for that. I don't think they're enemies to lovers, though; they've always had chemistry regardless and were never really on each other's bad side to begin with. For my definition of enemies to lovers, it is volatile hate and attempted murder to infatuation, so I feel like Brucelina is more ragebait and ragebaited rivals to lovers, if that makes sense. But if you like easy-going banter, a sort of less complex love story in terms of the issues between them in comparison to Brutalia, you'd love Brucelina (sorry, I'm not well-versed on how to write about Batcat, but I guess this is my initial take). I understand there are complexities between them, like Selina's parents and all other sorts of things, but I just don't think I'm knowledgeable enough to give an opinion, and I'd hate to piss people off by saying the wrong thing. I'm really sorry if i have already.
But with Brutalia (and I'm so sorry if I sound biased, but I just love them sm), for me it's like the one kind of love an individual will experience and never get over because of all the things left unsaid and the fact they're both emotionally constipated and don't know how to communicate without hurting each other; it's toxic, and I love it because all they know is how to effectively hurt themselves. Talia and Bruce are very alike in respect to their devotion in terms of duty and family and love, and I feel like they can understand the weight of it. And I do think they're enemies to lovers because, come on, the girl was tasked to kill the man she loved one too many times. Okay, hear me out: not enemies to lovers, but enemies AND lovers. I think if you enjoy complex relationships and love stories with lots of emotional depth, consider their family ties and backgrounds and their upbringing and trauma and how that all plays into their character and relationships. And personally that's what drew me to Brutalia because of how pure their love is in comparison to the lives they lead and what they've experienced.
I have sm more to say, but I'd hate for this to be a rant post lol. If you want me to yap more, I'd love to have a discussion about this together.
But y'all, wholeheartedly, I see Talia and Selina together a lot too, like, let's be fr, they're such good characters and way too good for Bruce, and they both love animals amongst other things.
Like, I fear they should be canon. This is another thing I need to say before I shut up, but I can't be the only one who sees male protagonists drowning in love interests but then female characters only being assigned to a few and reduced to their accessories. Idk if I should make a hot take post on that; maybe I will.
