MOONSTAR #5 SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT

I found myself really kind of frustrated by this comic. It was incredible in many parts, but the ending just did not feel satisfying to me at all.

We’ve been hyping up this sword and Dani having to make an impossible choice only for them to… not follow through. No one died. Dani saved everyone. No consequences at all.

Like even with a shot of her skin turning grey or something to show Danslief was still corrupting her even if she THINKS it’s over would’ve been so, so good, but we just got a happy epilogue.

Also, there was no new outfit. I wanted her to FINALLY be out of that training uniform and she’s just not, and that’s also frustrating, because this would have been the perfect time to do so.

I enjoyed the buildup and the climax, but the payoff…? Not so much. Which sucks!!! I want to love this comic! I still do really like this comic, despite its flaws, but that ending was just so frustrating to me as a reader.

One of the best things about comics is how it doesn’t end. I don’t want it to JUST be self contained. I want it to MATTER. And it’s just so frustrating that it feels like it doesn’t.

Generally, though, I’d still give this comic a 4/5. I still love Dani, and Allen wrote her so, so well. Everything set up is still really compelling, and if someone else brings backs the corrupting influence of the sword, I will be happy. I feel like I’m complaining a lot 😅 but I just saw so much potential, and it sucks to see it all… basically go to waste.
