Shout out to Characters who are shells of their former selves! You died and you’re not coming back! You don’t recognize yourself and neither does anyone else, and it’s anyone’s guess what the fuck you’re supposed to be now!
some people act like comics are ridiculously hard to understand and get into and then you ask them what problems they're having and it turns out that they seem to be incapable of googling "[character] reading list"
[ID: Edits showing Absolute Wonder Woman and Zatanna from DC comics. Each edit is over a blue background. In the first edit Zatanna brushes against Diana's shoulder as Diana says, "Go now, or this will all be for naught. In the second edit Diana takes Zatanna by the hands as they look at each offer and smile. In the third edit Zatanna leans on Diana's shoulder while Diana adds, "May Hecate protect you and your father, Zatanna."
re: the tags on your dani art post, i was wondering, do you have examples of relevant regalia/references for dani that aren't jingle dresses? i'm geniunely curious BC i wasn't aware that there were other ceremonial regalia that she would wear and i want to make sure that i'm using the right ones for her in the future :]
Yes! So some background for my choice specifically is that I'm a born and raised Oklahoman Native and have also lived in the New Mexico/Colorado border, and workshopped ideas for which regalia I would settle on for her with my Kiowa friend. I wasn't sure if I'd put her in more Northern Cheyenne regalia, or Southern, but I settled on Southern Buckskin styles! Which for me, I was able to pull a lot from my own powwow experiences and tribal gatherings. I also used her buckskin from New Mutants #54 as inspiration for the colors I wanted to work with!
And then for IRL Buckskin to model after:
With the Cheyenne regalia, once I decided on sticking with Southern styled regalia, I would choose a Leather Buckskin over Cheyenne Trade Cloth. Both are gorgeous, and share the same T silhouette, but the material and decorations vary. I looked between more modern buckskins (lots of beadwork, heavier and longer tassels, lots more ornamentation), and figured more old school would also work better for Dani, with how I wanted to draw her.
so these two Southern Style Cheyenne Buckskin's ended up being my biggest guide! I was gonna do individual beads for the earrings and shoulder deco but it uh. was not working, LMAO. So I just did the colors to convey the beadwork along the shoulders and as earrings. Not seen because of the angle were the tassels I would have put on the front.
But any of these dress styles work for Dani! Southern Buckskin, Northern Buckskin, Cheyenne Trade Cloth/Women's Cloth, are all much more culturally relevant for her as an Indigenous character over Ojibwe Jingle!
