I made this laser cut piece for my dad for father’s day last year. He is an expert and a certified teacher in Japanese tea ceremony, and I took tea lessons with him sporadically from age 6 to age 18. It’s still something we share and bond over. I drew the Los Angeles tea room we practiced most in and also drew us in kimono, of course him making tea for me. Like usual, I used Adobe Illustrator. I used many photos of tea rooms, kimonos, and objects for reference. The bottom image here shows the laser cut vectors in the 1/8” birch plywood, and the top is after I used water color to liven up the scene. I later super glued an 1/8” clear acrylic protective sheet on top of the finished paintjng so the paint wouldn’t come off and the art would stay in tact forever. Today is his birthday, so I am posting this in honor of my awesome dad.
