Sony Computer Entertainment Japan held a conference to acknowledge the 25th anniversaries of the Metal Gear and Final Fantasy series. Hideo Kojima—the creator of Metal Gear, and Yoshinori Kitase—the current producer of Final Fantasy, were in attendance, and were given commemorative bento boxes honoring their respective franchises.

The bento boxes themselves were shaped like mini Playstation 3 consoles. Two were given to Kitase: one featuring moogles and chocobos, the series’ mascots; and another featuring Cloud Strife, Zack Fair and Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, which is currently the best-selling Final Fantasy title worldwide at 10 million copies.

Kitase first joined Square in 1991 where he worked behind the scenes on Final Fantasy IV. For Final Fantasy V, series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi chose Kitase to work directly under him as an event planner. In 1994, Sakaguchi handpicked him as his successor to the producer of the series when he made him co-director of Final Fantasy VI with Hiroyuki Ito. He directed VII and VIII; and produced X, X-2, and all games in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII and Fabula Nova Crystallis subseries.

“I was actually a Final Fantasy player back in my college years, 25 years ago,” Kitase said. “I recall admiring the visuals and being moved by the touching stories. Five years later, I became the producer for that same Final Fantasy series I’ve always loved. 20 years has gone by since then, and till this day, I still remember the feelings I had back then. I’d like to continue sharing that experience with today’s players.”

Hideo Kojima also spoke of the Final Fantasy series: “I’ve always been impressed by the artistic side of Final Fantasy. Everything about it, including the title screens are beautiful. Not to take anything away from Sony Computer Entertainment, but I believe that Final Fantasy definitely played a big role in helping them rise to the top, and set a standard for their games. We’d like to do our best and keep up as well.”

Even if you’re not part of the club we are more than welcomed to have you stop by! We will be providing FREE Filipino food and showcasing two traditional dances! It’ll be a great chance for you to learn a bit about the Filipino culture!

Hey Tropa! This Sunday is our Flea Market for October! If you want to spend time with your board members and help them out as they sell be sure to come by! Flea Market comes only once every month so be sure to take the opportunity! It’ll be from 7am-2pm so if you’re free at all during those times be sure to come by! :D We’ll be stationed next to the planetarium! It’s a fun time to bond with the ones who work hard for you :) Hope to see you there!
