Simon Riley x reader (also gender neutral I think)
You'd tried getting over your fear of thunderstorms. You'd tried pretending they didn't bother you, which usually worked.
Until you were sitting on the couch with Simon while it was thundering. Nothing too bad, just little rumbles. It was downpouring outside, but that was comforting.
You were actually beginning to fall asleep--well, half asleep. In that little haze where everything felt like syrup, your head resting on his shoulder. He was scrolling on his phone, as the tv had long since lost service when the downpour began.
Then a bang rang out. It wasn't the kind that was just loud. It felt like the earth was shaking, the air crackling. The kind where it felt like your very bones were rattling.
You gasped, sitting bolt upright, hands digging into Simon's shirt.
"Hey---you're okay. You're okay." Simon's hands grasped your wrists gently. "It's just thunder. Lightning didn't strike the house. We're okay."
You must have looked like a spooked animal, back straight and tense, eyes wide.
"Sweetheart we're okay. It's just thunder." He moved one of his hands to rub your back, gently pulling you back down.
Begrudgingly, you let him, head resting on his chest, his hand on the back of your head, half covering your ears. He was warm, and your body automatically associated him with safe.
Eventually you calmed down, going back into that soft haze, the rumbles of thunder no longer bothering you, muffled against Simon's chest and hand.
He bought you noise canceling headphones a couple days later.
Characters I had in mind: Bucky Barnes, Remus Lupin, James Potter, Jayce Talis
You dropped your keys on the counter, legs aching from the long day at work. Up and down, up and down. You weren't positive you'd sat down for more than 5 minutes until your lunch break--which wasn't much of a break anyway.
He was in the living room, watching something on the television you couldn't be bothered to care about. When he turned to you, his face started to form a smile but shifted to one of concern and sympathy when he saw your expression.
"Long day?"
You nodded, plopping yourself down on the couch next to him. His arm automatically fell around your waist and you curled into him, breathing him in.
"Don't even feel like showering." You mumbled. You showered every time you came home from work, no matter what. Greasy hair was one of your biggest pet peeves of yourself, but tonight, it just didn't seem worth it.
Right now, all you really wanted to do was sleep.
"You know if you don't shower you'll regret it in the morning." He murmured, thumb rubbing slow motions on your side.
You made a disgruntled sound turning your face into his shoulder. "I don't have the energy."
"Do you want me to wash your hair for you, then?"
You blinked in surprise. "I don't want to make you---"
"I'm offering. That's not you making me do anything, love." He interrupted before you could finish your protest. He knew you never wanted to bother him, never wanted to be a burden. Hated asking for things, especially if it was something intimate.
"...yes please" You finally said, voice quiet, cheeks slightly heated with embarrassment.
He kissed your temple. "Okay then."
He turned the shower on putting one of those scented bath bombs you liked inside before starting to peel off his clothes.
You looked appreciatively, although you were much too tired to do anything other than look, he tapped your forehead. "Mm-mm. Just washing your hair, love." He tugged at the hem of your shirt. "Need these off unless you want soaking clothes."
That got a soft huff of almost-laughter out of you.
Once you discarded your own clothes, he placed a hand on your lower back to steady you as you stepped into the shower. You shuffled your way forward to leave room for him to get in.
Facing away from him, you let your shoulders fully relax as his hands massaged the shampoo into your hair. A soft sigh of contentment left your mouth, and you tipped your head back into his hands.
"Don't fall asleep on me yet, love." He murmured, adjusting the shower spray to rinse your hair.
"No promises." You answered.
The warm water was making you especially groggy, combined with his hands massaging your scalp.
When he turned the shower off he wrapped you in a towel and then used an old t shirt to dry your hair off. He wasn't really sure the difference between just using a towel, but he knew you always used t shirts to dry your hair instead.
Once he was done with that, he handed you one of his shirts, one that you had claimed as your favorite sleep shirt. He'd worn it recently, it smelled like him.
You nestled in the shirt and settled next to him in the bed.
"Thank you," you whispered, pressing a soft kiss to his lips.
He hummed softly against your mouth and pulled back. "You're welcome, love. Go to sleep. You need it."
