Charity Burbage was raised by muggles. Or thatâs what she always thought. In reality, Elisabeth and Flora Burbage were both aware of the magical world. But they were both squibs from pureblood families. Since neither of them had magic, the two of them were always together, forced to be part of the society that never accepted them for their lack of magic. Through their years as friends, they fell in love. Unfortunately, Flora was married off to a pureblood wizard because her parents wanted a partnership with that family. She ended up married to a man for nearly a year before she became pregnant. He wasnât very nice and she didnât want to raise a kid with him, so in the middle of the night Flora and Elisabeth ran off together and hid in Oxford. They both knew it was wrong to hide from their families, but they didnât care. No one would understand and to them, it was more important that Floraâs child grew up happy and loved. When Charity was born, both Elisabeth and Flora decided that she would be raised in a house without mention of magic because it was safer that way.
From a young age, Charity was a bright ball of sunshine. Her parents were always worried about her. They sheltered her. The three of them lived in a small cottage in the middle of nowhere. Her mothers grew all their food. She basically lived on a small farm and she loved it. She didnât know that it was strange growing up secluded from the rest of the world. Once a month, her parents would pack her in their tiny car and they would drive into the nearest town. Charity loved seeing all the little shops and shopping for the things that her parents couldnât grow or get from their farm. She followed them around like a little duckling, asking questions. When she was good, her parents would buy her candy or ice cream in the summer, where theyâd eat it in the park. It wasnât until she was older did she start to realize that her parents werenât normal. That their sheltering her wasnât a good thing. She didnât know what to do about it though, especially when she started to feel there was something they werenât telling her.
It was at the age of ten that she decided she wanted to run away. Charity got as far as to town before she realized sheâd made a decision. She sat down at a park bench and thatâs when a gang of children her age found her. She thought they wanted to be her friend, but she quickly realized that they didnât. While Charityâs parents had sheltered her, people in town talked about the two women who lived with their daughter on the outskirts of town. And they didnât like it, so they told her just that. Charityâs mothers found her curled up on the bench with a broken arm. They took her to a doctor and then home, where they finally told her the truth. They they were from a magical world and Charity knew that she had magic in her own veins. It explained so much. She got her letter nearly weeks later and her parents took her to Diagon Alley and introduced her to a muggle society that accepted them as m
Hogwarts was an adjustment for her, being sorted into Hufflepuff, and around more students than she was used to, but Charity wanted to fit in. It took a while for her to find her place among her peers. Coming from a family like hers, she didnât know about magic and she wasnât a muggle, but something in between. While she liked all people and tried to be a bright face for her fellow peers, it was often that she found herself not fitting in with them, as much as she tried to. Charity has spend the last six years carving out a place for herself, trying to find a space for her mums because she believes everyone has a place in the world. Itâs slow going and she might be naĂŻve and optimistic, but she refuses to give up her vision of a united world, where muggles and magical people can live in unity. Although Charity has that view of the world, she hasnât really noticed the tension in the world around her, the oncoming war because sheâs far too focused on the things that students her age should be focused on: school and being a teenager.
