“… somewhere between the skinned knees and sticky hands of childhood, the hours spent bickering in the summer sun with grass stains over clothes, secret laughter shared beneath torch lit covers at the dead of night, becoming die hard rivals, exasperated enemies, trusted confidantes, best friends who would do anything and everything for the other, spread across the others beds, music blasting through the walls, fears and hopes, doubts and dreams spilled against shoulders, piggyback rides and hands held softly, fingers linked as they walk, feet kicked up on the dashboard, song forgotten for the sunlight, through the jealousy and bittersweet fights that seem to end it all, yet hearing the constant buzz behind of “you’ll always have me”, years of pining, regret, hidden in the casual gestures that have always been, yet things never stay broken for long, forgiveness like prayers from lips, gentle apologies murmured into hair, hands smoothing over skin, because the anger never stays, pushed aside by routine, tangled together with shared smiles, that are something more now. 

because realization strikes eventually that, somewhere between the softness of youth, and the hard lines of adulthood, every forceful “shut up”, became fond “i love you”  ”
