can you explain dyscaculia more in depth ?
This website gives a really good breakdown of dyscalculia, and I highly suggest reading it.
ADDitude breaks down what dyscalculia can look like in adults:
Symptoms at Home
Monetary transactions, DIY projects, or even a friendly game of pick-up football may be sidelined by dyscalculia. At home, symptoms might include:
Trouble doing mental math; gives incorrect change, for instance, or needs a calculator to figure out a tip
Frequently late, occasionally missing important events altogether
Finds it difficult to remember names
Often drives too fast or too slow, or vastly misjudges how long it will take to drive somewhere
Needs to write down a phone number immediately to remember it
Gets lost easily; misplaces objects around the house frequently
Struggles to keep score in games; often loses track of whose turn it is
Slow to tell time on an analog clock
Poor memory for anything number-related, like dates or facts
Struggles to learn dance steps or anything involving motor sequencing
Symptoms at Work
Even if your job doesn’t directly involve math, you may still be confronted with it at work. If you have dyscalculia, symptoms in the workplace may include:
Gets anxious at the thought of having to do math unexpectedly at work
Trouble handling money or keeping track of finances
Frequently runs out of time while doing a task, or fails to plan enough time for all the things that need to be done
Trouble understanding graphs or charts
Finds it hard to understand spoken math equations, even very simple ones
Skips numbers or transposes them when reading a long list or spreadsheet
Finds it difficult to use Excel formulas
Uses fingers to count or marks pages with tally marks to keep track of numbers
Often gets several different answers to the same math problem; needs to check work over and over again
Unable to remember math rules or times tables
This is a self-test from ADDitude to see if you might have dyscalculia.
I hope this helps!

its 2017 and we need to realize
that often kids labeled as above-average genius or gifted and talented are neurodivergent and have trouble with social interaction executive dysfunction and emotional regulation despite being academically gifted
gentle reminder
you are not a failure
you are allowed to be disabled
you are allowed to struggle with things other people find easy
you are allowed to have a hard time with things people say you shouldn’t
you are allowed to acknowledge your difficulties and struggles
you are allowed to be disabled
you are allowed to need accommodations
you are allowed to demand accommodations
you are allowed to use accommodations
you are allowed to be disabled
you are allowed to exist without being “useful”
you are allowed to exist without meeting abled people’s expectations
you are allowed to exist as a disabled person
you are allowed to be disabled
Punishment only teaches people to hide the behavior, not to change it.
Stop punishing kids who can’t learn the same way. It doesn’t teach them to learn better, it only makes them try to hide their struggle. Speaking from experience it takes a lot of years to unlearn to hide. Stop punishing kids who can’t do certain things, try to help them instead. Punishment only teaches shame. No child should ever be punished for the way their brain functions
eliminate the phrase “overcoming dyscalculia, overcoming Dyslexia, overcoming learning disabilities” learning disabilities are neurological disorders. they cant be cured. they wont just go away. saying anything about “overcoming” them encourages a false idea of how brains work. Im tired of explaining that nothing can fix my disability and people responding with “just practice more” and encouraging use of the word “overcome” encourages a mindset that believes practice will cure learning disabilities.
We cant overcome our learning disabilities. They are neurological. They wont go away.
stop treating them like they are something to be cured.
PSA: even people with diagnosed learning disabilities have been so brainwashed that we still tell ourselves that we aren’t working hard enough. We tell ourselves we are stupid. We don’t even realize it’s our disability. Having a piece of paper from a doctor doesn’t erase the lifetime of brainwashing and criticism. It doesn’t make our teachers stop telling us to “stop being lazy.” It doesn’t change the TV shows and movies that depict us as stupid. It doesn’t change the minds of the ignorant.
I remember growing up not having any, I hope that changes one day.
I can’t out grow my Ld, anymore than I can out grow my eye colour.
Your LD is real and valid.
I resent the fact that some people think the best I should aim for is being perceive as non-disable.
this user has dyscalculia
Shout out to the kids who found out about their learning disabilities later in life •To the kids who always struggled in school and didn’t know why
•To the kids who thought they were dumb because the didn’t understand something deemed “easy”
•To the kids who’s parents wouldn’t get them tested for learning disabilities
•To the kids who were called stupid or dumb by teachers or classmates
•To the kids who gave up in school because of this
•To the kids still struggling through courses
You’re fucking strong and beautiful and I will always love and support you. Keep doing whatever you’re doing
Money is available for prospective and current college students with issues such as dyslexia or ADHD.

chrome extensions for disabilities masterpost
I have seen a lot of posts on here talking about individual extensions for chrome to help people, but I haven’t seen a place where they’re compiled together. So here you are! font/text
no caps - Makes everything lower case
Open Dyslexic: changes the font to Open Dyslexic and makes it larger. Personal favourite.
Dyslexie: changes the font to dyslexie and allows change to font size and colour (blue). Can be turned off. (Doesn’t seem to work on facebook)
Font Changer: Allows you to change the font on specific website or on everything using a Google Font. I believe you can also upload your own, if there’s a specific font you need.
BeeLine Reader: Uses a gradient so your eye follows along one line to the next
overlays/colour change
Color Overlay - Irlen Filter for Chromebook: Puts a coloured overlay over the screen. can choose colour and opacity.
Sunglasses: Tints the screen grey to reduce contrast
Desaturate: Removes all colour and makes everything a greyscale
High Contrast: Change contrast or invert colour scheme
Deluminate: Similar to High Contrast, but tries to keep photos in tact
G.lux: Makes the colour of the display change depending on the time of day (also cuts down on blue light so it’s easier to fall asleep)
reduce visual distraction
Readability: Can change things such as margins, colours, etc… as well as reduce visual business
Ad Block Plus: blocks ads. What more needs to be said?
FlashControl: Stops flash animations running by themselves
Hide GIFS: Allows you to keep GIFS from displaying
Text Mode: Loads pages in black/white, covers images, with text only.
audio
SpeakIt!: Reads small section of highlighted text aloud
Chrome Speak: Reads small section of highlighted text aloud
Announcify: Reads full web pages. Warning: may stop in the middle of text or not read for the full thing.
I have been looking for these kinds of resources ever since @ora00911invalidcharacter got in touch with me. I’m still keeping my eyes open for further resources, but I hope this is helpful!
Dyscalculia, sometimes known as "math dyslexia," affects the ability to make sense of and work with numbers. Learn about math learning disabilities and disorders, including symptoms and treatment.
The link is directed toward parents of young children, but could be a good intro for anyone not familiar with dyscalculia. The list of sources at the bottom of the page is also worth looking at.
