I hate family vloggers so much imagine having this little respect for your adolescent kid’s privacy and personal life
Do You Know What Children Are
They don’t have jobs, nor do they pay for rent, utilities, or food. That’s the textbook definition of a freeloader.
i would gladly bury you alive
by your own definition of "freeloading" it's actually the parents who are freeloading off of their children, who star in all of their content, are the actual draw for the family channel that makes the money that pays for the rent, utilities, and food. these parents are exploiting their children in a textbook violation of child labor laws in a situation where the child has no power or recourse against an exploitative system, in large part because so many people don't see them as human beings worthy of protection and yes, privacy.

obsessed with how often women describe falling in love with other women as a quieting, a moment of stillness and calm where before there was noise.

There’s a phenomenon where a lot of feminist and queer spaces will talk a lot about supporting trans women, and view trans women as one of the most oppressed groups there are, while at the same time being pretty inhospitable to actual trans women and more willing to ostracize and punish them for infractions which they’d forgive others for. And downstream of that, they’re rendered a lot more vulnerable to abuse by the precarity of their place in the community.
Some of what’s going on there is just, well, talk is cheap, and it’s easier to get people to say the right slogans than to actually unlearn transphobia. But I think some of it is this:
A common form of transmisogyny is the idea that a trans woman, as a man pretending to be a woman, is something threatening pretending to be nonthreatening. (Julia Serano’s “deceptive transsexual” is basically this.) Now the people in these spaces don’t think trans women are men, oh no. They’ll say “trans women are women” and fully believe it. But it’s one thing to think that trans women are women in the abstract, when the word “women” is right there in the subject of the sentence to guide you. When you’re dealing with an actual trans woman in front of you… maybe she’s got masculine features and you kind of think of her as a man even if you wouldn’t say it. Maybe she’s half a foot taller than her partner and if there’s abuse going on there, there’s no question in your mind who’s abusing whom. Maybe she said something you disagree with and well, would she really have said that if she hadn’t spent most of her life being treated as a man? Maybe she’s taking up more space than you’d like her to and that feels pretty masculine to you. And you’re not saying that she’s faking her identity or anything, but it sure is convenient for her that she can accuse people of transphobia if they point out how she’s exhibiting toxic masculinity.
So sometimes without explicit misgendering (although explicit misgendering definitely also happens), people and groups can pretty easily be convinced that trans women are wolves in sheep’s clothing, dangerous and deceptive and untrustworthy. “Trans women” in a lot of these people’s eyes, are great, but actual specific trans women not so much.
happy halloween 🎃
My Halloween costume this year is inspired.
I already said this in my tags but:
Hey, y'all in the notes: she wasn't asking you to call her beautiful or say she's adorable or "uwu she's so sweet i would die for her". She's asking you to interact with physically different creators regardless of if you think they're beautiful or not. Beauty standards are a farce and we need to stop implying that beautiful is the most important thing someone can be. Every person who says "oh she's so sweet I would die for her" or "anyone who calls her ugly is getting their kneecaps caved in": this is for you. You are being madly infantalising. It's like when you say to a fat person "oh you're not fat, you're cuddly" like, shut up! I thought we were past this by now. She is a PERSON and you are all scrambling to say just how beautiful you think she is, without even thinking about the message she is trying to send.
This isn't me saying she's ugly or whatever the fuck. I don't believe in ugly. This is me telling you all to stop being so fucking surface level with your beauty 'activism'. She knows what she looks like and she probably doesn't need hundreds of people infantalising her because they need to performatively show off how good they are and how much they don't care about traditional beauty standards. Grow up and interact with her like she's a person, not a fuckin three-legged puppy.
one of my wife's coworkers found out I'm 31 and said "ok sarah paulson" and i have NEVER felt more disrespected
"Are you a boy or a girl?" I'm a punchline.
My pronouns are he/he/he/he/he.
i just said the same thing on twitter but please please please consider standing up for remote learning options even if everything does somehow go back to normal. so many physically disabled people drop out of school/college because of inaccessibilty. we have been asking for an option like this for so long and keeping it would change the lives of sooooo many people. we have an opportunity to start reforming the educational system to be more accessible to disabled and poor people and i really dont want to lose remote options because ableds are too lazy to keep hosting video calls.
this is okay to reblog but physically abled ppl be quiet!
