Stray (A Luke Glanton MiniFic)
Synopsis: Luke Glanton finds a stray cat in the rain and brings it home to take care of it
Ps. This takes place as Luke stopped his criminal career and managed to save up for an apartment. (Also sorry if this is OOC, this is my first time writing for a character)
Thank you @gottabegreyhound for the character idea!
The rain fell hard, large droplets of rain hitting Luke's skin as he walked down the sidewalk. He raised a hand to cover his eyes, squinting to see past the showers as he let out a huff. “Didn't say it was gonna rain today…” Luke mumbled to himself before hearing a small sound pausing his steps. He looked around, brows furrowing together until he landed on the alleyway filled with cardboard boxes and bottles. “Anyone there?” He called out as he took a step into the dark area, his eyes still searching along the boxes.
Another quiet sound came from the rubble. “Mrrow”
“A cat?” Luke thought to himself as he began searching the garage, pushing aside boxes until he found where the noise was coming from. A small kitten, dirtied grey and white fur covered the tiny animal's body as it let out another cry. “Where'd you come from lil’ guy?..” Luke muttered softly, his features turning to concern as he reached out to gently pet the cat's head.
The kitten was purring softly, the vibrations soft against Luke's fingers. “You don't have a family, huh?” Luke said as he picked up the small kitten, barely any larger than his hand. The rain had slowed but droplets still fell, Luke tucked the cat safely within his shirt as he lightly smiled. “Guess you'll be coming home with me.” He spoke softly to the cat, lightly petting its head once more before beginning his journey back to his apartment.
The sound of a door unlocking filled the silence of the dark house as Luke pushed the door open and stepped inside before shutting it behind him. “Alright, let's get you clean.” Luke hummed as he brought the kitten to the bathroom, turning on the tub to pour out lukewarm water.
Luke let out a light huff of amusement at the cat's curious meow, shifting to sit on the edge of the tub before stopping the water. He gently unwrapped the kitten from his shirt, carefully wetting its legs with some of the water to test its reaction. The kitten briefly flailed its legs before calming down and licking some of the moisture from its paws. He chuckled and slowly lowered the cat into the shallow tub of water before turning to pump soap into his palm. “You're being surprisingly calm..” Luke mumbled to the cat as he began to gently massage the soap into the fur, careful to avoid the kitten's eyes as he washed the dirt and grime away.
After washing up the cat, Luke grabbed a hand towel and began to dry it off. “Wonder what I should name ya…” he trailed off to himself, setting the towel down as he examined the kitten. “Guess you're a girl, hm?”
Luke smiled and gave the cat another light stroke. “How about… Alley? Real creative, huh?” He added sarcastically with a chuckle, picking up the cat and draining the bath before walking to the living room and setting the cat down on the floor. “Alright, you can explore and I'll get you somethin’ to eat and drink.” Luke decided with a nod before heading to the kitchen and grabbing out two small dishes. He filled one with water and the other with some tuna from a pouch before setting them on the floor and clicking his tongue. “Alley, food!”
The small cat ran over at the sound of the click, almost stumbling over its own clumsy paws. Alley immediately started digging into the tuna, chin wet with juice from the fish. Luke let out a soft laugh at the sight, reaching out to readjust the kitten so that its chin would not be in the bowl.
Alley had finished eating, Luke now wiping her chin clean before standing up to throw the napkin away. Alley let out a small yawn and walked over to Luke's long legs. She gently pawed at his pants and tried to climb up on him but failed, making Luke smile and pick her up. “I think it's time for us to sleep, yeah?”
Luke carried her to his bedroom, making a spot on his bed for her to lay on. Alley quickly made herself comfortable, curling up into a ball and quickly falling asleep while Luke changed his clothes and crawled into bed. He gently rested his hand over the kitten's back, being careful as to not awaken her. “Goodnight, Alley.” He whispered with a light smile before shutting his eyes and drifting off to sleep.
