Day For Night
So....after a long time without posting, I finally caught the muse again in the Magicians fandom. Pretty excited about the premise of this one--so--we’ll see (fingers and toes and everything crossed). Hope you enjoy!
Summary: Eliot, after the dust settles, finds himself alone and teaching at Brakebills. Post S5. (Or maybe--not?)
Read here on the AO3

Interstitial Spaces
One year after Quentin returns, Julia throws him a welcome home party. Eliot finds a way to reconnect with Quentin, even from across another realm.
This is a long and angsty one, but with a happy ending, I promise.
There is a lot of discussion about Quentin’s mental health in here, with some vague references to implied suicide. Please take care of yourselves.
SPOILER ALERT: I got the idea for this story based on the Black Mirror episode “Striking Vipers”. The only thing I borrowed from the ep was the basic premise, which you can get from the episode description, but I wanted to be careful if anyone wanted to remain completely un-spoiled about the episode.
Read it on the A03 here

The Magicians Rec Center Comment Fest!
Here at The Magicians Rec Center, everything we do is rooted in fanfiction. We provide recommendations, interview authors, share writing tips, but none of this would be possible without the dozens of hard working, dedicated content creators who write the spectacular fics in this fandom. We’ve noticed a drop in morale and an overall shift in vibe in the broader fandom so we wanted to do something to foster more community and positive engagement between fic writers and readers! For the week of June 1st through June 8th we are holding a fanfic commenting festival!
Fanfiction writers put a ton of time and dedication into bringing us amazing content for free! While hits and kudos are a wonderful, quick way to show your appreciation, comments really do make a big impact. Having explicit feedback on what readers are enjoying, or just having concrete proof that the work is being enjoyed at all, can make a huge difference for fic writers. Knowing what readers are reacting positively to keeps writers on the pulse of what their strengths are and what is resonating with people, and sometimes it’s just plain nice to have some thoughtful validation of our hard work. Fanfiction, just like all forms of entertainment, doesn’t just spring up out of nowhere. Real people work hard to bring it to us and we want to pay them back! Comments brighten up their day, and for many, keep them motivated to turn out more amazing content for you guys. Fic writers pour hours and hours of time into writing their works, and The Rec Center wants to take out a little time to make sure we put a little time and effort into thanking them for that.
The Task:
We want you guys to go out and leave comments on fics you love but haven’t actively engaged yet. Once your comments have been made, take a screenshot and send it our way on Tumblr or Twitter. Throughout the week, we will feature your comments on the blog to encourage others to read more fic and provide more direct feedback to writers. At the end of the week, every comment will be entered into a raffle for the chance to win a prize!
The Rules:
All comments must be posted between midnight June 1st and 11:59pm June 8th EST, be at least two sentences long, and mention a specific line or moment you loved about that fic/chapter to be eligible. Comment on works you haven’t left comments on before and make sure they are respectful and well thought out. Any comments that fail to meet the criteria will be disqualified from the drawing.
We hope this goes without saying, but you cannot submit comments on fics you wrote yourself.
Once your comment has been made, take a screenshot and upload it to Tumblr or Twitter (make sure to tag us @themagiciansreccenter center or @magiciansrec respectively) along with a link to the fic. We’ll reblog the entries as they come in. Who knows, maybe your comments will inspire someone else to read your favorite fics and leave comments of their own!
Yes, you are allowed to have multiple entries by submitting multiple comments, but please do not forget the spirit of this is to celebrate fic writers and let them know what you love about their work. No half hearted comments.
The Prize:
We wanted to do something nice for the fandom and uplift content creators of all kinds, so for an added treat, we’re offering a prize made by a craftsperson in our fandom! The raffle winner will receive an emotion bottle necklace made by the wonderful Anna of Fairy Ring Jewelry! Your emotion bottle will come decorated with a custom charm of your choosing. You can see examples below.
Do not forget, even though we are offering a prize this week, the ultimate goal of this is to get people actively engaging with the fan content they are consuming. Please put the writers first when writing your entry comments. Make your comments count! The goal should be to brighten up someone’s day; the entries into the drawing are just an added bonus! Once the week is over, try to keep in mind how awesome it is to engage with your fic writers and try to make the effort to comment more going forward!

the magicians s4 finale: a mood board [1/?]
You know, I don’t think, in my 20+ years of fandom, that I’ve ever seen a fandom have such an intense rollercoaster experience as The Magicians has just had in the last few months.
We were a little fandom, just excited for the new season and enjoying the episodes as they came out, and then…4x05 happened. And it was instantly like the most intense fandom high ever. They. Did. That. It happened. The slash ship became canon, on mainstream TV, and it looked real and like they couldn’t take it back. We floated in the stratosphere for weeks. The media went wild, everyone was suddenly talking about this show, and there was a giant boom in the fandom.
So many people binged the whole series in a week or two and suddenly the fandom had at least doubled in size. And it was a lovefest, with a whole new group of people gushing over all the great things about the show, and the characters, and the Queliot ship.
And then 4x11 happened and suddenly it looked like the show was trying to undo what they’d done in 4x05, trying to push Quentin back at Alice. And the fandom tore itself apart in a pretty significant way. Some of us thought it was a fake-out, there was a lot of fighting about queerbaiting and biphobia.
And then the finale hit, and devastated literally the entire fandom. Like, I’ve seen other misteps happen in fandoms, but there’s usually people defending it. I haven’t seen that. At all. The finale broke our hearts, retroactively made the progressive actions in 4x05 meaningless, failed to resolve a bunch of plot threads, and betrayed the people who had been defending TPTB.
Almost four weeks later it’s still just a giant wail of grief and anger, though the anger seems to be way outlasting the grief.
But damn, that’s a really brief period of time for all that to happen. Literally eight weeks from the highest of highs to lowest of lows. That’s got to be a fucking record, if records of that kind of thing could be kept. Sure, shows have gone from great to bad before, but never to such an extreme, never so fucking quickly. Has a fandom ever taken off and soared only to crash and burn so fucking quickly?

Also, I know people have already mentioned this, but his death had nothing to do with the rest of his arc.
Like. Quentin hadn’t touched the mirror world. He wasn’t the one to get trapped there, he wasn’t the one to get split there, it’s meant nothing to him all season. He had no business being there when it could’ve been literally anyone.
And his discipline was introduced as like, a sliver of hope in his otherwise completely hopeless state. It was almost a moment where he could start seeming like himself again, where he could start getting better after being heartbroken and desperate all season. And that’s what kills him??? What’s the lesson there??? “You’re stupid for thinking things might get better”????
And has he cared, like, at all about the Library? About Everett, about the why of the Monster, about the Old Gods, or really any gods?
Quentin’s sole motivation all season was saving Eliot. No part of the resolution of his arc made sense. It was ten episodes of Quentin wanting to save Eliot, and then three episodes of the writers completely forgetting about that.
@entertainmentweekly knows what’s up.
For those who, like me, might have problems deciphering the small writing: this is a page about the week’s “hit and misses” according to the newspaper.
Next to a picture of Quentin, it reads: The Magicians sparks fan blacklash, making a compelling case for audience vanishing act next season.
Spoilers for The Magicians Season 4 finale. By now you already know that The Magicians’ Quentin Coldwater died in the Season 4 finale. Yes, D-E-D, dead. There’s no resurrection in the works and no trick of astral projection or Niffin state of higher being can bring sweet, depressed, narcissistic Quentin back.
Syfy Wire took this article down after posting and promoting it. Luckily someone got a PDF of it.
The rest under a cut for length.

Might have popped off and posted the entire thing on twitter oops
