ooc: future of this blog

;;I’ve made a decision in light of recent events: that being, specifically a group of people I thought were friends/that I could trust, that I and my close RP partner had known for awhile and forged a lot of stories/RP relationships with, completely shutting both of us out following a random, ridiculous disagreement. Three years completely out the door. (Are we proud of ourselves? You reap what you sow, fellas) 

This development has made this blog a really uncomfortable/unhealthy place for me to be. As such, this character and his storylines (apart from those of the two-faced crowd I was a part of) will continue elsewhere, at some point, at an disclosed location. I’ll be following a lot of people I enjoyed having here over at the new place. When it will be up and accessible I don’t know, as of yet. I need to get some distance from this character for the time being. Not forever, just a little while. 

If you’re at all interested in writing with this Archie in the future, feel free to let me know via inbox message. Some of you I’ll be following on that metaphorical account regardless. 

Otherwise, this blog is now an archive. This has been a lesson learned in trust and letting other people have access to your plotlines. Going forward I think we’ll be sure not to repeat them.

;;I’m not going to make a point of answering/assuaging drama and wank on here on a regular basis but I guess I’m feeling in a bitchy mood today, so I’ll humor you, anon (the same, I assume, that sent the ask into burnbooking- I’ll wait patiently for the burn that is obviously about me and how ‘adoctorsconscience is SUCH AN ASSHOLE ROTFL UWU’) 

It is a strawman because rather than putting forth a good argument as to why people should keep following blogs they don’t want to the anon instead made it about people trying to control other people. That’s not what the original burn was about. The original burn never put forth the argument that we should be allowed to forcefully coerce people into RP blogging the way we want them to. The original burn wondered aloud why people with RP blogs have to make them into personals by reblogging a lot of irrelevant, untagged posts and what a shame that is because then those of us that want a clean dash don’t want to follow those people back. 

It is a strawman because rather than continuing the point of why people who want clean dashes should follow people who blog this way I’m instead having to clarify the original point. By the most basic and generic definition, that is the purpose and the function of a strawman argument. 

I know a ‘joke’ when I see one and I’m afraid you’re not going to convince me that a butthurt, sarcastic reply to something you disagreed with (because it was probably applicable to you) was just a joke.

One annoying trend that I've notices is that people actual use their blogs for whatever they want??? That is in violation of tumblr rp code where it strictly states that I have control over what everyone puts on their blog. We can't have people being individuals now can we?

Of course people can use their RP blogs for whatever they want. Unless I’m mistaken, the burn this is in response to was pointing out preference, not making the argument that people should be able to control each other. If someone wants to spam reblog pictures of butts over and over again on an RP blog they can and should be allowed to do it, just as their partners should reserve the right to unfollow/not interact with them because it makes their dash look messy. Imo, it doesn’t make sense to use an RP blog like a personal and comes across a little inconsiderate, especially when the irrelevant posts aren’t tagged. No, that doesn’t give me or anyone else the right to physically restrain someone from doing it, but that's not the argument that was being put forward. 

As far as RP blogs goes, being individuals =/= reblogging a bunch of untagged. irrelevant shitposts. Being individuals means writing your own take on a character, making your own graphics, actually RPing a character in your own way. It’s ridiculous to make this into something that it isn’t just because you’re most likely one of the people being addressed.

IN GENERAL :: One baffling trend lately is the using of an RP blog like a personal: just reblogging post after post that have nothing to do with RP or the character or anything relevant and not even bothering to tag it ‘ooc’. I’ve been forced to unfollow so many people I would’ve liked to RP with because they spam the dash with nonsense, sometimes doing that more than any actual RP. ;;Quick rant about recent events that I know no one cares about and no one is going to read but meh, I gotta get it off my chest.

I’m at the point in my life where I’m not going to chase after people. I’m not going to beg you to stay around me, especially if you’re being a piece of shit anyway. In the past few years I’ve become very well acquainted with people fucking me over/backstabbing me etc (having a close family member do this to you REALLY changes your outlook on life) and, quite frankly, I’m done. My bullshit tolerance meter is at 0. Period, end of. 

I come on here to have fun, to relax. My personal life is stressful enough without getting into rifts with people here. If you start nonsense there’s 99.9% chance I will cut you loose the moment you start. I don’t care how long we’ve known each other, I don’t care who you’ve written with me, who you’re friends with, etc, I do not care. I will kick you to the metaphorical curb because my son crying over his Thomas train rolling under the couch is all the tragedy I need, really. 

This is a big RP community. Huge, in fact. There are a lot of great muns out there waiting to RP/write with me. I’m not particularly worried about losing a few that made this place unpleasant for me, that would’ve destroyed a years long group dynamic just because they decided 3 months later that they were ‘uncomfortable’ and ‘didn’t understand what was happening’ with a plot that was made VERY CLEAR to everyone involved. 

That’s not my fault. That’s not grumblygardens‘ fault either (who, by the way, I will kick anyone’s ass for hurting). That’s not the fault of the people you RP’d with and it is extremely shitty to hold them accountable for that. The time to let people know you are uncomfortable or confused with a plot is when it is happeing. And even if you realize it later I can’t believe it wouldn’t take longer than 2 weeks to realize OH WAIT, not 3 months.. You can’t hold other people accountable, make it out as though they forced you into a situation when you neglected to tell them how you felt at the time, when you made it clear this development was perfectly fine with you. You’re a Grade A asshole if you do this and that’s one way ticket to me being done with you. 

But if you wait that long to suddenly decide to let people know you don’t like the plot? I honestly question whether your discomfort is legitimate, especially when everything said and written at the time (including the stuff by you) acknowledged with superlative clarity what was going on. That reeks of manipulative bullshit to me, especially when your character is 100% no longer involved in any of the storylines. 

Point being, regardless of the Tumblr community coddling/enabling encouragement, there comes a point where we need to take responsibility for ourselves. Most of us here are either adults or old enough to understand what this means. You should not always be looking for someone to blame when you feel uncomfortable- sometimes, yes, there is someone to blame/ask for more sensitivity but sometimes it’s your own personal problem that you need to do something about on your own rather than holding other people accountable. You cannot let yourself get to the point where you’re twisting arms and trying to convince people to change things they’re doing (that are irrelevant to you anyway) because that’s controlling behavior, folks, and it’s not okay.

Cherise made an incoherent noise. It was something about another test, but she slid a picture towards Archie and while whimpering she finally uttered, “Please tell me that shadow is not another baby because they said it might be twins. It MIGHT be twins. Archie, I can’t do twins. I just got used to Smudge. I named the baby Smudge and I was okay with this… No, no I can’t do this! Tell me that shadow is not a baby! Look yourself!” She rolled herself into a ball on the couch and let out a little cry. “I have to go for all of these frequent tests because I’m high risk and, “Oooh it might be twins look there’s a little shadow that looks like a second baby!” Fuck no, I don’t want twins!”

Archie was, of course, not a medical doctor in the least so his eye for these ultrasounds was not going to be acute. Still, he did his best to assuage her in looking them over. There did indeed seem to be an odd shadow and if the powers that be thought there was a likelihood of multiples then he didn’t want to offer her false hope. 

“Well...maybe Thing 1 and Thing 2, then, would be more fitting under the circumstances...” 

He gave her a wan smile, quickly realizing it wasn’t the time to joke. 

“I-...I know. It’s not ideal. I suppose...we don’t know for sure yet. We shouldn’t commit ourselves to theory.

Little positive confession about burnbooking. 

When the burnbook concept first started gaining momentum I was kind of on the same bandwagon as everyone else in terms of looking down it. I think that was mostly because the book that existed in the beginning was more of a drama/shit-stirrer than anything and I found that to be both obnoxious and unnecessary. 

But having thumbed through burnbooking’s pages I find I like them. A lot. For one, I’ve only ever seen them publish the url of a burn with legitimately polite, constructive criticism (which is usually still met with salt and volatility about what a “bully” the burn-maker is because it’s not blind praise but yknow). 

For another, the book seems to exist as more of a great little anonymous venting arena for obnoxious RP issues and, frankly, I think that’s a wonderful thing to have. RP blogs aren’t a great place to vent because we are, after all, here to be RPing and there’s a likelihood we’ll get accused of passive-aggressive vagueblogging (which I don’t think is inherently terrible but here we are). 

I think we’ve been sort of living in this ultrasensitive bubble for a long time on tumblr (rp and otherwise) where if we’re not constantly ass-patting each other then we’re being ‘mean’, we’re building up already pretty tall, wobbly jenga towers of victim complexes. Maybe in other places on this site that kind of treatment can go unchecked but, uhm...as far as writing is concerned? No one is going to get any better by being told constantly how great and perfect they are at what they do. 

No one’s perfect. As far as writing is concerned, there will always be room for improvement. No, I’m not saying this makes obviously troll-tastic confessions like “SO AND SO IS A BITCH AND SHOULD STOP WRITING” acceptable, but I am saying that it’s a little troubling that the knee-jerk response on here to helpful criticism (even if it is a little tough-lovey) is to jump up and down and call the person a bully and rally friends in defense of a fragile ego. 

Maybe, just maybe, it wouldn’t hurt us to learn how to accept criticism gracefully even if it’s harsh. Reacting angrily and throwing a fit is only giving momentum and power to the people who want to see such a reaction. Accepting this feedback with calm tact and MAYBE EVEN TAKING SOMETHING AWAY FROM IT is a sure-fire way to bettering yourself as a person. 

We can’t control our emotions, no. We can control how we act those emotions, however (most of us). Just because someone calls you a pink elephant doesn’t automatically make you that, so there’s really no point in getting openly belligerent when someone offers negative/critical/harsh feedback.

“That’s…true. You never have….” It was a promise always kept. No matter which world they lived within, Cherise found that she never had really fallen when Archie was there to catch her. She knew he was always there… Sometimes she wondered if his mind was strenghtened from patients all day and he was just starting to inherit more powers. Cherise leaned automatically against Archie. She felt attached to his side sometimes, like she belonged there. This was a safe place to be. If she never left his side, there wasn’t going to be anything trying to hurt her. Unfortunately, it seemed like that was true. Every time she ventured out, something terrible happened. True safety was at his side and in his arms. She pressed her head against Archie’s side and let a contented sigh slip from her lips. “Always sweet. Sweeter than the sugar spun- huh?” So it was true. He was up to something! Cherise gently pushed herself from Archie’s side to give him room. “A surprise? What’d you do? You nearly killed me with the surprise nanny so what the hell is going on?”

Archie hesitated a moment upon memory of how he had hired Nana. It had been sudden and without Cherise’s consultation and he hated doing it that way. They were a partnership, she and him. Nothing of note was done without consulting the other and, well-...he had made quite the decision this time without asking her beforehand, even bigger than hiring a Nanny. 

He remembered the uncertain, almost frightened looks of August and Marco when he did what he had done. They’d had warning after warning and then, finally, resignation- maybe even making the decision to leave town to escape Cherise’s wrath. 

But this wasn’t entirely without precedent. They had spoken about this before, just not so definitively. 

“Do you-...do you remember talking about getting a place...? A bigger place for children who had nowhere else to go? We’ve talked about it before. Quite a few times, just in passing...”

She rolled her eyes, “So, I’m not allowed to feel what I feel? You have already rejected me. And quite frankly I don’t care. You do what you want and whatever makes you happy. Hate me, dislike me I don’t give. But you do not tell me I have no right to do the same to you. I don’t know you. I don’t know who you are. I feel as if you set these high impossible standards, so I guess we are both disappointing. So are you done?  I have a sick son and one that is getting back from school.” She looked at her nails as he spoke. It hurt but what could she do, it was better if he hated her. All she could do with Ned was hide him and Adrian to keep him home until she found an antidote then get him the hell away from her so he could be safe. When and if she could wake him she would take the fall for drugging him. If Adrian believed that she would go that far then he too would leave her side and leave the reach of the court. They could all be safe, all of them if she made sure they all hated her. She needed one more jab, one more thing to make Archie truly believe she was a heartless monster. “You were never my family. You aren’t my family. How about you just walk out Mr. Hopper, because quite frankly I’m getting tired of hearing you. We share blood that’s it but that doesn’t make us family. It never will. The only one I have ever loved or wanted back in my life is Cornelius. He is my son. You aren’t, Adrian isn’t. You are all as important to me like dolls. Cornelius is the one I want back. He shouldn’t have died, it should have been one of you.” She grinned, maybe now he would never come back and that was the better option. “get out. Now. I don’t want Ned seeing you, and you tainting him with your filthy ways.”

Archie knew he had to leave. If there was capacity in this woman for love or compassion he was in no place to find it. His plate of responsibility was overflowing as it was, what with helping his immediate family, Cherise in particular, through the struggle of this pregnancy. If, perhaps, he had always seen this cold aloofness in Tabitha then he wouldn’t have bothered coming here in the first place, yet he remembered a woman whose eyes widened and face flushed in disbelief at seeing her long lost child. He remembered the look of loving awe as he told her the truth...but that could have been an act. It was difficult to decipher fact from fiction. 

“You’re right, I don’t know you,” he shrugged. “I realize I hold some fault for that- but so do you. Between my work in town and seven young children it can be difficult to find time to spend with anyone, even my wife. I find the relationships that thrive best in my life are the ones that meet me halfway. You never did that, Tabitha. I didn’t know where our relationship stood. I was unsure of approaching you. If we don’t know each other then we are both at some level of responsibility for that. It doesn’t have to be that way. You don’t have to alienate yourself. If you were willing to give us a chance you could have a son, a daughter in law, more grandchildren than you knew what to do with, a support system beyond that. You wouldn’t have to be alone as I suspect you are. But no, I’m not going to push this. A good relationship is born out of mutual interest, which is obviously not the case here.”

Tears were still burning in his eyes, but he held fast against showing it. They were not tears for himself so much as they were tears for her. 

“You know, you-...you speak as if your acceptance of me is some...prize that I haven’t been worthy enough to earn. But the fact is, Tabitha...I’m going to go home after this to large, loving family, to a support system of extended family and friends, most of whom I don’t share blood with. I’ve successfully, happily lived my entire life to this point, all 153 years, without you and I will continue to do so. I’m not sad for myself. I look at you and I wonder who you have- if anyone. I wonder if you isolate yourself because you are sincerely content or if you do so because it’s easier. Because it’s safer.”
