At first, I really didn't like Catra cuz she did some really HORRIBLE things to Adora and I couldn't understand why people shipped them because i too have suffered abuse from the people i love. That was UNTIL I saw how Shadow Weaver manipulated them both and even still I couldn't like Catra until szn 4 because only then did she remind me so much of myself. Like I like them now because they give me hope that maybe I too could be loved. So can I have ur opinion on Catradora? Do you also ship them?

I don’t like catra/adora, and I don’t ship them.

Shadow weaver abused both of them, which was horrendous, and I have empathy for both. I understand why catra lashed out so much, and how badly she must have been hurting. I can identify with that, and I DO think she’s deserving of love, and I DO think she deserves a happy ending.

But I can never see her paired with adora because, as you said, of all the horrible things she did to her. I cannot fathom shipping someone with someone who intentionally scarred them, essentially drugged them to hurt their friends (in season 2 with corrupt she ra, and later adora being “drunk” from the side effects), and even tried to end the world out of spite. When adora said “you made your choice - now live with it” I genuinely thought the chances of them getting together were completely destroyed. I thought it was the turning point - the point of no return. I think maybe adora could forgive catra for what she’s done, but they would never ever be as close as they had been before.

Catra deserves love and to be in a healthy relationship, but those bridges with adora should have been long since burned. And adora wasn’t good for catra anyways - catra was constantly feeling like she was in Adora’s shadow, and was shown to be unhealthily obsessed with her. I don’t think she could grow from her trauma if she was with adora. Is the IDEA of catra/adora good? Sure. But the execution was horrendous, and glorified the worst elements of unhealthy relationships.

I really just want to say thank you. As someone that’s now entering a really healthy relationship and in the process of cutting off contact from an awful ex partner blogs like yours are nice to see. C*tradora made me think that the emotional abuse, name calling, and needs not being properly met was just normal. I just wish it was more commonplace to be crit of the ship.

I like to think that, eventually, C//A will be seen as notoriously bad ship, when other LGBT+ cartoon pairings become more common than it is right now.

I am, in fact, just playing the long game, because it’s already bound to happen. We don’t have to do anything but be crit and be patient.

All of that to say, you’re not alone and I hope things become even better for you as you heal. Be kind and be happy :)

Fans need to stop tagging every post in the world as catradora and explicitly catradora posts that don’t even mention Glimmer as Glimmadora. It makes navigating tumblr as a Glimmadora fan who doesn’t like catradora a nightmare.
