I am shocked. I am sad. Last night drove a man a truck into a christmas market right beside this church at Breitscheidplatz here in Berlin. 12 people were killed and more than 40 people were injured. I have been to this christmas market a few days before. I worked very close to this place.
This is a very sad day for Berlin, for Germany and for Europe.
Neue Synagoge - New Synagogue
Built in 1866 by August Stüler and Eduard Knoblauch with more than 3.000 seats it was merlins biggest synagogue. Destroyed by fire in WWII only parts of the building could be used after the war other parts were removed. In the late 1980s former eastgerman government started to rebuilt the synagogue. In 1995 the house was reopened but it is not consecrated as a synagogue.
