Rick ruined his own life by drinking. HE is the one who can’t handle the concept of somehow having less liability for his mistakes due to the consequences of his actions being reversible using science and/or portal travel.

Morty did not give him alcohol. He did not say, “hey neglect ur wife for me.”

I am certain Morty feels responsible for it all because kids tend to blame themselves when shit goes down but this was not his fault in any way.

Morty just wanted to be near a family who loved and cared about his well being.

It’s interesting how good Jerry’s eulogy shows hints at his fucked up relationship with Mort before we learn about it. When he doesn’t get enough of an initial response, he repeats ‘how many of you here loved my son?’ like he’s the hype man for a band instead of a grieving father at a funeral. When he says why he loved him, he first states ‘because he was mine’ instead of ‘because he was my son’, showing how he considered Mort more of a possession or extension of himself than his own person.
