With a jolt, the brunette realises that she had just practised breathing, and she feels heat flood to her cheeks. This time, hurriedly, she lines up her shot, breathes out, and fires——-

            —-burying the arrow just a fraction left of the bright red dot in the centre of the dummy’s face.

despite herself, despite the fact that she has no idea if this woman will eventually be her enemy or her ally once the games begin, katniss’s face lights up for just a fraction of a second, proud of her instruction. she likes the teaching part, it helps take her mind off everything else.

everything is just so overwhelming, but she doesn’t say that out loud. every single person in here is a potential threat just as much as they’re a potential  ally  and she’s not letting any of them in on anything that can be seen as weakness.

she realizes she should say something else to avoid making the situation anymore uncomfortable than it already is and without any other logical excuse for her behavior, she throws out ----------

           no one really understands how hard it is to accept the compliments and the praise that’s come her way since the quarter quell. it doesn’t feel right because she never intended for any of this to happen. not once did she  ever  set out to be the mockingjay, the face of the rebellion against the capitol. never. it was an accident, the result of a desperation to just  survive. she deserved no credit for any of this.  ❛ i was just doing what i thought i had to. anyone would. ❜
