What Kouen tells people: “I wrestled the bear with nothing less than the dignity a Kou Empire royal should carry.”
What actually happened: “YOU PIECE OF SHIT BEAR YOU GIVE ME BACK MY FUCKING FISH OR YOU WILL FALL UNDER MY FUCKING RAGE!!! FUCK YOU BEAR!!!!” But with far more expletives.
Everyone is confused when suddenly Koumei is the most dangerous of the three Kou brothers because of those demonic birds. Dantalion is extremely confused; she did not intend to be used to magnify Koumei’s army of psycho birds. Yet here she is, transporting demon birds through portals to fight her king candidate’s battles for him.
Kouen and the bear make a ferocious tag team, and Kouen fights at his best when protecting his new bear friend from their enemies.
Kouha and the wolves just howl and tear their enemies apart, and nobody is surprised at all that Kouha became part of a wolf pack. Especially not his household. Kouha never did particularly like loneliness, after all.
Even though he and his elder brothers are of different mothers, he idolizes them to an abnormal level.
Kouha’s Attendants
The magicians who are accompanying him to Magnostadt are all quite skilled. They love being hit by Kouha.
Kouha’s Story
Due to his personality and his mother being labeled an outcast, Kouha has been distanced by the people around him. However, despite those circumstances, he didn’t yield and swore to fight without a shame.

-Cold gazes are cast toward Kouha and the lowborn people that he gathers around him.
He’s quite experienced when it comes to women? From his appearance, speech and conduct, Kouha looks and sounds like a teenager. However, from the way he handles the three female magicians around him, you can’t help but get the feeling he’s like a veteran in that department.

-When it comes to the ladies, he’s superior to Aladdin and Sinbad?

He’s a simple-minded berserker who loves the sight of blood
Due to his readiness for a battle and lack of patience, whenever they are supposed to travel incognito, halfway through, a flashy fight unfolds. He swings his massive sword and his enemies are cut apart one by one.
Captions:
-Forgetting himself, he thrusts his weapon at his enemies with a ghastly vigor.
-he loves war and cutting people makes him feel good. That suits him as the prince of the Kou Empire.
He’s the other king of the Kou Empire and ruling over the shadows
In the imperial palace, Kouha has been regarded as a dissenter ever since he was little. However, without letting that ruin him, with his own hands, he tore open the path he must follow.

-Kouha’s strength that originates from his positivity is guiding people.
-Not only in the Kou Empire, there are many people from beyond who swore their loyalty to Kouha.
Point: he especially pampers those who he acknowledges. He opens up his heart and relies on the exceptional. Kouha too has his own unique way of life.

Judar is one of the few people other than his family that he opens up to.
Ohtaka’s Maref
Q) does he expose his legs because he’s aware of his own charm?
A) his stature doesn’t suit him as a warrior, does it? However, as someone high-ranking, he probably thought of ways to attract others. Doing his best while following the method that he came up with, it turned out like what it is now.
Djinn Equip: Leraje
The luminous, rock hard wings are circling the battlefield. Kouha’s djinn equip exudes strength and is bewitchingly beautiful. The long wings extending from his back and the massive scythe that he carries with both hands are creating the perfect balance. Kouha, who normally shows a lot of his beautiful skin, does the same in djinn equip mode.
Wings
The crystals intertwined with Leraje’s hair transforms into wings on Kouha’s back that flap wildly.
Great Sword (Nyoirentou)
It transform into a halberd. His great sword turns into a weapon that’s both a scythe and a hammer.
Sturdy Armor
It shows what it shows.
With one swing of his metal vessel, his enemies drop like flies.
Kouha’s slender body and shape-shifting metal vessel has acquired him his own unique battle style. When he swings his metal vessel that also makes the earth quiver under its power, countless enemies that stand in his way scatter away like leaves.
Extreme Magic: Leraz Madraga (Leraz Hammer)
Kouha’s extreme magic leaves a large gaping hole in his enemies.
Captions:
-While his metal vessel is destructive, it can also act as a shield and protect Kouha’s comrades from the enemy.
-Kouha, who loves war, won’t be intimidated even if his enemy is of colossal size and would challenge it head on.
Point: Leraje, who hates unfaithful men. ‘I’ve had enough of unfaithful men’ is Leraje’s reason for choosing Kouha as her king. Is she holding a grudge against one?
Caption:
-Leraje, who was told by Kouha ‘looks like you were dumped by someone’. In the past, was she burning with love for a womanizer who threw her away?
Ohtaka’s Maref
Q) When it comes to maintaining his beauty, what’s the thing he takes care of the most?
A) It’s his face. He probably thinks in order for him to be persuasive, he must take good care of his face and hair. The outcome is a strange one (laugh)
Kouha’s Relationships
Kouen, his elder brother that he respects
Kouha swore absolute fealty to Kouen and obeys his every order. Even though he was chosen to be king, he preferred to be Kouen’s household.
The Kind Koumei, who chides Kouha whenever he behaves mischievously
The calm Koumei always looks after the naive Kouha kindly. Kouha would state his opinion in front of Koumei without reservations.
Judar, who believes strength is justice
Even Judar, who isn’t a member of his family, acknowledges his strength and doesn’t mind his company. Even though Kouha spoils him a lot, Judar seems irritated when he does so.
Aladdin, the friend that he met on his journey
Aladdin, who traveled with him on his carriage, became a good playmate on that boring journey. To kill time, he braided his hair, which ended up looking similar to Kouha’s.
Point: the three magicians who survived a tragedy. They are Kouha’s subordinates who were subjects in an experiment to create magicians artificially. It resulted in them having a repulsive appearance. They are meek and admire Kouha, and it looks like they are in some sort of an adult relationship with him…!?
Kou Empire is a patriarchal society. Women seldom are in a position of power (only two of the eight princess are generals) and even when they are they are still used for marriage alliances (just look at Kougyoku’s two almost engagement situations).
Growing up in this country, it’s only natural that Hakuryuu thought that he should be the one to protect his sister:
The important thing is that Hakuryuu recognized the flaw of that way of thinking and now he believes that he should have told his sister about his problems and treat her as an equal:
Furthermore, Hakuryuu has no problem admitting that he gave his throne to his other sister, Kougyoku, and he’s happy he did so. He knows that she’s a great Empress and the fact that she’s a female doesn’t matter to him.
Just look at how huge she appears on his vision if you want any confirmation that Hakuryuu truly respects her:
Hakuryuu doesn’t consider the women on his family -or any woman for the matter- as fragile beings and that’s something positive about his development as a character.
@naegichiis thank you! I’m working on a second chapter ~ I’m hoping to make this a huge multichapter fic for obvs reasons. It’ll probably run parallel to the Magi canon too xD

Pairing(s): MeiEi (Koumei Ren x Hakuei Ren),misc others. First is the main focus of this story, however.
This is a mulitichapter fic!
Rating: Ranges from PG13 to Mature.
Summary: From the time she was young until she was an adult, Hakuei’s eyes and heart were purely for her second oldest cousin. Call it a childish crush, but he was the only one that caught at her heart strings; he was always gentle to her. And he loved her too,but too afraid to say a thing.
One kiss at night changes everything - and alters their fates as they know it.
Hakuei’s nineteenth birthday wasn’t unlike any other day - strange considering she was the princess of a nation.
She herself wasn’t much for parties, as much fun as they could be. Well, she wasn’t for parties centered on herself, one could say. Hakuei wasn’t a woman for tossing herself into the limelight much.
Truth be told, princess, general, dungeon capturer, or maybe in the future queen, Hakuei muchly preferred to be in the library reading, in her room sewing, or taking care of her younger brother, Ryuu.
But books were something she loved. And that’s how she spent her birthday, immersed in a book of old fairy tales that her older brothers Yuu or Ren read to her as a child.
These stories kept her entertained all day, going through the first, and all the subsequent scrolls after them from the morning until early evening. Hakuei only noticed that it was dusk when the sunlight started to fade and it was getting dark fast. Cursing her lack of foresight, and also her carelessness of the time, Hakuei rose from her cross-legged position on the floor, completely stiff from sitting for hours on a hard, flat surface.
Hakuei felt dizzy from lack of food, legs were a little numb as well. She swayed a bit, nearly falling - but the young girl was caught by a pair of arms before her body met the floor. She stiffened, thinking a servant or someone else caught her.
“Lady Hakuei, are you alright?” she recognized the voice, and Hakuei let her body relax a little. It was Mei, so she felt instantly safe.
“I’m fine, Koumei.” Hakuei smiled up into his face, blue eyes twinkling. “I’m just finding that I am a little tired and somewhat dizzy - I’ve spent my whole day reading, time got away from me and I forgot to eat is all.”
He found himself surprised that she hid herself away in the library of all places on her birthday. All day long, her fourteen year old brother had been on the prowl for her, trying to find her.
But he never thought to look in here, Koumei thought to himself. He was glad he was the first one to find Hakuei, and have her all to himself for a bit.
“Explains why you haven’t been around much today.” his voice held an amused tone to it. “Hakuryuu was on the war path earlier trying to find you, it was rather funny to watch.”
She made a noise, sounding like a sigh. Little Hakuryuu, always over protective of his older sister. Not like she minded in the least - it was actually rather nice. But he never looked deep in the library. She giggled, a soft sound that brought a smile to her companion’s face.
“You really should eat, Lady Hakuei. Your brother would have my hide if I don’t get you to.” He released her, making sure first that she could stand on her own - it wouldn’t do for her to crash to the ground like she almost did earlier. Hakuei was a little lightheaded but otherwise alright, and she followed him out of the large, book filled room down the hallways of the palace. Hakuei encountered her little brother in the hall and he chattered at her for a little bit, and she smiled all the while.
A few hours later, time found her feeling much better after a good meal, and the moon had come out to shimmer down on the warm summer evening. The only thing she liked about her birthday was the season she was born in. And there was a full moon - the last time that happened was her ninth birthday.
Hakuei was looking out into the night, dreaming a little as her eyes wandered over the silvery landscape, and but not so distracted that she didn’t notice when Koumei settled down beside her.
“I’d love to take a walk out there.” she was thoughtful. “But it’s so late at night I’m pretty sure I’d be stopped if I went out alone.” Hakuei looked at the older man, one that could easily make a person melt.
“I know you prefer being inside but please walk with me?” the girl pleaded. “I don’t want to bother Kouen right now.”
“You didn’t need to ask.” he smiled warmly at her. “I could already tell.” Koumei got up and easily linked his arm with hers when she followed suit, a smile on her face.
It wasn’t cold outside, so she didn’t feel the need for a warmer outer robe, and it was easier to move around. The world at night was extremely pretty, with the moon and the stars shedding a gilt light over everything. She felt slightly giddy and jittery, and thought it was the excitement of being outside in the moonlight - not the company she was keeping.
Hakuei never said it out loud, but since she was very young she harbored a childish crush on Koumei. She was never sure why, but the sight of his smile or the sound of his voice always made her smile no matter what was going on. And as she got older, it had developed into full blown love. But Hakuei was wise enough not to show it. Anyone knowing could lead to disastrous consequences.
And there was no way he could love her back. All he viewed her as was his stepsister and a sweet person, at least in her mind.
But she was completely wrong. There was a reason he constantly gave into her requests, spent time with her and generally was protective. He did love her, with all his heart in fact. His eyes followed her where ever she went, but never fully noticed.
A walk in the moonlight suited him, so he could have her to himself. Not sharing with their family, much as he loved them. And when she looked away he could gaze at her warmly.
He followed along after her, an hour passing as they blissfully walked deeper into the gardens.
Hakuei turned around and came back towards him, presumably to say she was done and wanted to go back in to head to bed, if she hadn’t tripped over a stray tree root in the garden and fell into his arms once more and making him fall onto his back.
This time it was a little unbearable, her soft body pressed into his. Something he had been dreaming about for some nights over the last few years, but not in the way it was happening now.
And on her side, Hakuei felt her cheeks go red when his arms wound around her protectively. It was hard to think correctly, with him so close. Unintentionally, her hands went up to settle on his chest. Hakuei could feel his heart beating fast, like a fluttering bird in a cage.
“Are you alright?” his quiet question startled her out of her reverie. Her face became redder, and Koumei couldn’t help but think that was absolutely adorable.
“I-I’m alright. Are you?” she knew he had a somewhat delicate frame, and was slightly worried she hurt him.
“I’m fine, my main concern is for you, Lady Hakuei.” She’s so close, he thought inwardly. Her lips were right there, for the taking.
And for once, he didn’t care what happened if he acted before he actually thought.
The last thought in his mind before he kissed her was of the sweetly startled look in her eyes.
