betrayal
I looked down – and my world shattered.
A knife lay embedded in my stomach. But there was no pain. At least none from the wound. I slowly, painstakingly dragged my eyes up to meet his. Nothing. There was nothing but cold, casual indifference. A deep, sting settled in my chest. So deep, it burned through my very soul. So deep it set my very blood on fire with heartbreak. It felt like the pain of having all my bones broken and my blood boiled, compressed into one tiny point, that is my soul.
“W-why?’ I croaked. “Why w-would you do this?”
“Because you mean nothing to me. Just a pawn in a game.” Not a single drop of emotion stained his voice.
“I t-thought you l-loved me.”
He scoffed, cruel amusement in his eyes. “Love? You poor naïve thing.” He casually adjusted his sleeves and checked his watch. “No, I simply made you believe, made you trust. And it was oh so easy. Your broken heart was so trusting that it was almost effortless to slip in and manipulate you.”
I didn’t think it was possible, but my heart shattered again. And again. And again. Until there was nothing left but tiny splinters, digging into every part of my soul.
And then – the pain came. It came in the form of an ungodly wail that sprang from my lips. A hot, burning sensation radiated from my stomach. It was unimaginable. It felt like a vine of thorns twisting and churning in my abdomen. That, combined with the heart wrenching heartbreak, caused my world to fade into black.
