a small little quick rant about aeon and re2r so i can get it out of my system lol
i do wonder if a big reason as to why a lot of people don't seem to get or or are flat out against aeon might stem because of how it was handled in resident evil 2 remake. considering that for a lot of people that was their first resident evil game, and it's essentially sort of replaced the og re2 atp for a lot of people, if not most. i have a lot of thoughts about that game lol, but i'll just focus briefly on ada, leon and aeon. imo those lacking fundamentals that were changed or removed from the remake, bleed into the rest of the series and then make their interactions feel flat, undeserved or just kind of weird in context.
like by all means ada should’ve shot him in re2r that made the most narrative sense with the plot they half assed. like sometimes i can’t even blame ppl for not fucking w it if they’ve only played that game or aren’t aware of how different the relationship is in the original version of the game.
it also doesn’t help that leon is so… weird. like he’s lowk an asshole in re2r but at the same time they want him to come off as mr good guy cop and he ends up just feeling like a confused mess, so ada has nothing to idolize and leon has nothing to learn. on top of it all, leon acts entitled and like an ass towards ada imo.
and then ada... sucks at her job for some reason? and needs leon to get her the g - a guy she met by chance, so then wtf would she have done if she hadn’t met him? don't even get me started on ada just laying around in the sewers so that leon can come and rescue her (by... failing basic first aid whatever). GET ME OUT.
in the original, they keep running into each other - ada sees this as an opportunity she can use, rather than something she needs. because she doesn't need leon. no, she sticks around and ultimately sacrifices herself (depending on scenario) for leon out of her own choice because during the course of the game she falls for him or (imo) the idealized version of leon - this starry-eyed guy with a heart of gold that just wants to help, no matter what.
so when you take all of this out and replace it with whatever re2r ended up being, it's like building a house without a foundation. can it work? sure, but i feel like when we look at the writing of re4r the writers were working with ogre4 (so ogre2) in mind, and not really taking into account all the changes in re2r. so it just feels disjointed to me personally? i may just be wrong or being too harsh about things, but if i only knew aeon from re2r, then yeah, i probably wouldn't care much for them either.
i’m sry i just rly hate how they wrote that game it’s so ASS in every way possible. the only character they improved was marvin (and kendo if u gaf about kendo???) and then they retconned that shit in re9 and made him a pos anyway ahdhahshsb
