Just in case anyone was wondering: raising Seth Sorenson is a struggle. I have so much compassion for Scott and Marla!
Warren: Did you bring Hugo? Seth, gesturing to Bracken: No, but I brought the next best thing. Warren: Bracken? The next best thing would be Kendra. No offense. Bracken: I can’t be, Kendra is freakishly strong.
where my fablehaven enjoyers at
(close-ups under the cut)
i think it is unrealistic for fans to expect sequels to be published a year after the first one and also want the book at its highest quality. it's okay to expect a few years in between and i think it weird how much pressure authors face to publish their next book immediately. that's a lot of stress on authors and i think it often leads to books being put out before they are ready.
If you truly enjoy books, you should be used to a slower consumption experience.
Apply this to time between installments.
Accept that if you get into a good series with multiple books to go, you are going to be following it for a decade or more.
A bad book published on schedule is on time once, but bad forever.
A good book published on a delay is late once, and then good forever.
Ultimately, you're getting a book either way. The question is, would you like something satisfactory that you can look back on fondly for the rest of your life, or do you want something that the author rushed out over the course of a bunch of sleepless nights that reflects the quality of those working conditions?
Good work takes time. If you're really pressed about authors not handing you a novel each year, go write fanfic - and find out for yourself how hard it is to produce a novel's worth of good, solid, well-paced, well-plotted story regularly.

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
Reblogged as much for the haiku as anything else... :)
Any Kendra or Brackendra head cannons?
DO I HAVE ANY —
Let me introduce you to my fanfiction.net page, where I’ve writtenprobably over 100k words of Brackendra fluff which was born from my hc’s. ;)Kidding.
LOL these two are like my favorite subject!!!
Ummmmmm I’ll make this one about Brackendra and post another onein the near future about Kendra specifically. :)
Soooopicture Kendra as an adult with a lot of these. I do hc that they didn’t startdating until Kendra was atleast 18-ish.
1. Bracken and Kendra just like to be near each other. Theydon’t have to be talking - Bracken will read over Kendra’s shoulder, theysquabble about the rate at which pages are turned, etc. Or they can justeven sit next to each other and feel peace at that.
2. Kendra introduced Bracken to hot chocolate with candy cane init and he fell in love. (Bracken has a sweet tooth.)
3. Bracken enjoys dancing. Not club-style, but more likeballroom-style. He frequently asks Kendra to slow dance with him after dinner.
4. Bracken and Kendra are both early risers, Bracken moreso thanKendra, and she often wakes up to the wonderful smell of breakfast cooking.
5. One of their favorite pastimes is to sit next to each other ontheir back porch at twilight and watch fairies fly about while drinking tea andtalking about their day.
6. Kendra is a frequent visitor to the fairy realm, where Brackenlikes to introduce her to everyone he knows. He’s proud to call himself hers.
7.Holidays - Kendra loves todecorate. Bracken loves to help her. He lifts her up so that she can put thestar at the top of the Christmas tree becauseshe’s short. The first time he did it, she asked him what he was doing and hesaid that he was helping an angel get to the top of the Christmas tree. Shepretty much melted.
8.Bracken and Kendra are planners. Bracken enjoys taking Kendra out into naturefor hikes and picnics and such, and Kendra likes taking him into the city. Theyboth enjoy the theater - musicals, operas, ballets, plays, etc.
9. Theylike to travel the world together.
10. Bracken is a gift-giver,and he’s really good at picking things out that Kendra will love.
11. Kendra likes to make thingsfor Bracken (usually food).
12. They enjoy cookingtogether. Bracken doesn’t cook a ton, but the few things he does cook, he can make excellently. Mostof the time he does the prep work – chopping of vegetables and such – whileKendra cooks. She’s not a master chef by any means, but she enjoys being in thekitchen.
13. Long walks are their jam. Whensomething is bothering one of them, they’ll ask the other to join them for awalk (or one will just leave for a walk and the other will join them).
14. They both love spendingtime with Kendra’s family.
15. I have this hc that they eithercan’t have kids, or they were only ever able to have one kid. (Thanks, DNA.) Theyboth want children, and the lack of kids is hard for them to swallow. Sometimes one or both of them just feelhopeless, but over time they come to a sort of acceptance that it’s just not inthe cards for them. (Yeah, I know I’vewritten a few things with them + a baby girl. I couldn’t help it.)
16. Related to #15, they doteon their nieces and nephews. Seth eventually has kids, and Bracken and Kendralove to babysit.
17. There’s a definite mutualrespect between Bracken and Kendra. They each value their time with the other, howeverthey also value time alone or with other people or just apart from one another. They trust each other implicitly andunderstand that they need to have their own separate friendships apart from eachother.
18. Their first post-marriage fightwas about the ice cream in the freezer. Bracken had eaten it and Kendra wasdisappointed when she went to pull some out. It was a stupid fight and theyboth laughed about it later.
19. Bracken proposed to Kendra. However many times I write a proposal story for them, that’ll always be thescenario. He proposes to her. (It’s not always the guy that proposes to thegirl for my Fablehaven hc’s, but for them… yes.)
20. Kendra sings to herselfwhile she’s doing things. Bracken loves listening to her. It always brings a smileto his face.
I hope you liked these. :) I love Brackendra.

First: Welcome to the fandom! It’s mostly dead here, but there’s actually quite a bit of content available to look at!
Second: Yes. Omggggg yes

“Kendra. Stop,” Seth said. “Let’s think about this for a minute.”
“We’ve fallen inside a tunnel at Fablehaven, have been wandering for hours, this path appears to lead above ground, and it’s blocked by a sparkly gem on a pedestal. Let’s move it,” she replied.
Seth hoped she would realize how stupid she sounded by the pointed glare he tried to send her. “Do you realize how stupid that sounds? ‘Ooh, random sparkly jewel sitting in front of what is potentially our only way out of this place. Shiiiiiny. Let’s touch it!’ It’s obviously a trap. Use your brain!”
Kendra harrumphed at him. “We have a problem. I’ve proposed a solution, and all you’ve done is sat around blasting my proposal. Besides, I didn’t mean to move the gem - that is obviously a trap. I meant to move the pedestal.”
He furrowed his brows at her. “The pedestal is probably a trap, too.”
“Shut up and help me move it.”
“No.”
“Okay, fine,” she said. “I’ll do it myself.”
“Kendra, don’t-!” Seth grabbed at his sister’s arm to try and stop her, but she shrugged him off and made a beeline directly for the pedestal. “Stop! What if you kill us both?!”
“Then hopefully it’s a quick death, because I’m tired of wandering around down here. I’m starting to get hangry.” She pushed against the pedestal with all her might, it moved a few centimeters, and then she stopped and looked around. “Nothing’s happening,” she declared. “See? We’re fine. Now come help me finish moving this - it’s heavier than it looks.”
Seth glanced down the other passageways to see if anyone (or anything) was coming, and let out a held breath when he didn’t see anything other than the same paths of dirt and stone they’d been walking on for the past several hours. He gave one final look back the way they’d come, then decided to help his sister. Maybe they’d be alright after all. She did have a knack for getting them out of scrapes, and she was right; dinner was calling.
Still. “What if this does lead us out of here? What if the end of the trail drops us off in ogre territory or something? I don’t want to escape here just to become someone else’s meal.”
“If you keep thinking about what might happen, you’re gonna be stuck down here forever.” Kendra grunted as she strained against the stone pedestal. Seth helped, and they finished sliding it just far enough to the side that it created an opening that each of them could slide through in turns. She stood up and straightened her back. “I’m leaving. Are you coming with me, or are you staying here?”
Seth rolled his eyes. “I’m coming with you,” he stated. “But, for the record, I think you’re rushing into this.”
She shrugged. “If I’m rushing into this, then you’re rushing into it, too, since you’re coming with me,” she said. “Come on. I want out of here.”
“But the ogres-”
“Stop worrying about what you don’t know you’ll find. If there are ogres, we’ll deal with them when we get there. You’re such a worrywart sometimes.” Kendra squeezed through the opening they’d made and motioned for him to come through the gap once she was on the other side.
Seth rolled his eyes at her. “You are getting hangry, aren’t you? One of us needs to think things through.”
“Blah blah blah, you disapprove, let’s get out of here,” Kendra replied. “Look, I see a light up ahead. Let’s go!”
He shook his head as she took off running, but then decided he wanted to keep up with her. They were here together, and they’d make it out together.
And then he was going to have a serious talk with Grandpa about these tunnels, and warn him about the dangers of falling into one.
Brackendra head-cannons?
How about holiday style? Just because?
Bracken always wants to decorate the Christmas tree before anything else, and Kendra always wants to decorate the outside of the house first. Bracken usually puts up the lights on the outside of the house first, bc he loves how happy they make her. :)
They both love to decorate for lots of holidays, but they’re not those neighbors whose house can be seen from outer space.
Kendra woke up one Valentine’s morning and found paper hearts plastered all over the walls and windows, in a bunch of various shades of pink and red and purple. She was both shocked and delighted by this and laughed pretty hard.
Bracken and the fairies make wreaths for each holiday out of living plants, and people in the neighborhood are consistently mystified about how beautiful and alive they are.
Kendra takes Bracken to an old church building one year at Christmas time, one where all of the voices reverberate off the walls and create a very echoey effect, and they sit and listen to Christmas carols and hymns sung by choirs in primarily foreign languages for a solid two hours. Bracken calls the experience magical.
The solstices and equinoxes are important days and nights for Bracken. They celebrate those days with bonfires, dancing, music, and special foods. (Obviously these festivities are not held at preserves but rather somewhere away from the ruckus of every other celebrating magical creature who lives on preserves like Fablehaven.) Sometimes they celebrate in the Fairy Realm with Bracken’s family.
Dragonwatch finale theories?
Several! In no particular order!
Seth gets all of the gem shards & inadvertently restores power and balance to the Source and the Void once the full gem is pieced back together
Kendra raises an army, liberates Bracken & family, kicks Ronodin’s butt, takes the crown from him, and tries to give it back to Bracken’s mother…
...who turns it down because she’s decided to live in the mortal world with her hubby
This leads to: A, Kendra becomes the new Fairy Queen for real (which could happen but I’m on the fence about whether or not that will happen), or B, Kendra chooses/crowns the next Fairy Queen (I believe this would be Risenmay).
If Kendra becomes Fairy Queen, it makes sense for Seth to become the new Underking since they’ve got the whole yin/yang trope going on (and I love that) (((@fairykam came up with that one)))
If Kendra does not become Fairy Queen, I can see Bracken giving up his immortality for her. (I don’t think this will actually happen in the book, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was heavily insinuated.)
I think Seth will find a way to bring peace to the undead who suffer (like wraiths and phantoms, along with others who would prefer to cease existence instead of continue with their current circumstance) and/or make it his life goal to help them
Seth and Kendra both get level-ups. More full realization of potential for both of them.
There has to be some sort of closure between Ronodin and Seth. (Ok so I want Seth to be able to yell at Ronodin and maybe give him a good punch while he’s at it.)
Kendra gathers the legendary dragon slayers while Seth gathers the gem shards (this one is a given though)
Zzyzx has to be addressed in some fashion. How is Seth gonna get in there in order to nab the demon king’s crown & then get back out? Also, is the prison weaker now that Bracken’s 3rd horn is no longer being used as part of the Font of Immortality? Those questions need to be addressed
Knox & Seth are gonna have an argument when it comes time for Seth to collect the former giant queen’s crown
I feel like there will come a moment when Kendra has to trust that her brother has her back and will have to rely on him, with neither of them being able to really discuss things with each other ahead of time, and she will choose to trust him without a doubt. Together they shall conquer
Celebrant will be at the mercy of Kendra and Seth, who will choose to spare his life
The Sphinx is probably gonna die
Potential new world order where magical creatures and humans are on some different level of cohabitation
The Fair Folk will have a larger presence, and I’m half expecting Garreth, Eve and Lomo to lead an army of them in a stance against neutrality
Thinking about possibilities. This time with Scott and Marla (and probably Knox and Tess’ parents, whose names I don’t remember).
What if all of Dragonwatch thus far had taken place over a period of time which was longer than like 8 or 9 days? The parents come home from vacation to Fablehaven (which is hopefully still standing), and find their children missing. Hank and Gloria tell them that the kids have been called on a mission to Wyrmroost for at least a year.
Like. The anxiety they would feel? That sudden moment of oh shit?
And then, idk about Scott and Marla, but me as a parent? I would demand to join my kids, and there’s no way in hell that I wouldn’t give every single person in that situation a huuuuuuuge piece of my mind. Minus my kids. They’d get hugs and love and probably an overbearing mother for a few days at least. Everyone else would feel my wrath.
If this is pre-barrel-snatching, then I’m sure they’d be like “TAKE ME TO MY CHILDREN RIGHT. NOW.” And if Hank and Gloria didn’t have any sense to not try and resist, then I’m sure Dale would be like “Follow me, right this way!” and take them to the barrel bc I cannot imagine that Dale was okay with sending Kendra and Seth to be caretakers of any preserve, let alone a dragon sanctuary. (Assuming he was even told about what was happening before it actually happened. Seriously. Freaking. AAAAHHHH.)
And if they came home post-barrel-snatching?
:(:( My heart weeps for them.
Just. Jdkskqkkdjkekdkkrjrjekkekdo.
TL:DR, I like the idea of Scott and Marla randomly showing up at Wyrmroost one day in order to announce they’re moving in and also FREAKING LET LOOSE ON LITERALLY EVERYONE WHO DOESNT RUN AWAY FROM THEM ABOUT HOW IRRESPONSIBLE THEY ARE AS GUARDIANS AND HELL NO I WILL NOT EVER LET YOU TAKE CARE OF MY KIDS AGAIN WTF?!?!?!?
oops I yelled
Also. Something that’s been bugging me for a while now.
At the beginning of Dragonwatch 1, Fablehaven receives a mysterious visitor who gave me wizard vibes (can’t remember rn if the narrative actually stated that the dude was a wizard or not). It wasn’t Agad, and it wasn’t Marat, and it couldn’t have been Andromadus since he hadn’t transformed yet. So. Who was it? And will we see him again?
Wondering if that was the guy who helped Agad reanimate Mendigo?
A question which was never answered
