I'm actually so obssessed with Dyanna. My fridged khia mother martyr <3. What do you think about her death being actually caused by suicide? It makes me sad to think about, and the throughline then to Aerion's suicide is very juicy to me. Not that Maekar can't just mourn his dead wife dying of natural causes, but it being suicide (which he refuses to accept btw, he's so delusional) adds another layer. Dyanna is because of her house ofc a star to me, and I really like the idea of her self-destructing like a real star. So sad and romantiqué. Bonus point if it's a deniable suicide, like Aerion's.

The most common ones I see are mystery illness (which can be interesting!) or childbirth (boring but you can turn it into something slightly interesting if you think about the impact of the Blackfyre rebellions & Maekar's brothers being Dornish looking, rebelled against; Bookish and reclusive; "simple"; perhaps he's having so many children for a REASON ie to help protect his family and then he loses not only his wife but his father tells him "too many dragons is as dangerous as too few" and it becomes apparent Dyanna died for NOTHING)

RE: Mystery illnesses I have noodled with the idea of her having a seizure on horseback or something, or an allergy to some kind of food, and one or more of her children being "responsible" (a child so unable to save her) but I think I wanna stick to things that could be canon and were any of them held responsible I think we would have some indication of that

But suicide re: Dyanna I do think about, mainly because of Ashara! There's precedent... whether you think like Ashara she suffered the loss of a brother or child and could not cope, if she were previously mentally ill, or if she had PPD/PPP after her pregnancies. Attic wife Dyanna who can't be left alone with sharp objects or unbarred windows... You can combine this with the things above too. Does she eat food she's deathly allergic to on purpose?? Does she do risky things like riding horses very fast with known seizures because anything could happen?

The fact that Dyanna's most disturbed children are those who would remember her the best isn't lost on me. Perhaps you can argue that the loss of a parent they remember so well did a number on them, but equally you can say maybe Dyanna's influence on them wasn't the best, whether because she was an actively bad parent, or just sick and absent through no fault of her own. Or perhaps even locked in an attic with lovely yellow wallpaper

Baelon who got hastily told they’d marry once this happened — pulls a Jae/Aly (“we’re married but not consummated yet”) with Alyssa and makes it too public for it to be taken back; they were informally betrothed anyway

Vaegon the last option — Jaehaerys is now panicking and says he can consummate it at age eleven. Daenerys begs him to at least accept the betrothal. He flat out refuses loudly and publicly and writes to the Citadel and causes a huge political headache

Dany — extremely undesirable marriage prospect now because she’s a dragonriding princess who just got rejected three times in a row even when the king commanded the men to wed her. What’s wrong with her there must be something…

the thing abt fanon is that you can just block people. and if you enjoy canon more you can reread/rewatch to no end. otoh sometimes fanon becomes so dominant it both "overwrites" canon in the fandom space, and, if you care deebly abt the issues and themes canon is concerned with, it can become emotionally really taxing, to the point the best thing is to not engage with fandome (and hopefully carve out your own little space).

Well yes and I do block people and mute things. But equally it's fun to engage with fanon stuff wrt material you like and when it's all completely divorced from canon, it's disheartening. I promise I'm not consumed with hate & misery! For every complaining post I make I've been commissioning art and writing AUs and sending 300 messages a day about the books to select people

stupid thing to ask but did you like the way the show directed the iconic 'knighthood has fallen on sad days' scene between aerion and dunk?

No it isn't a stupid thing to ask! You have given me an excuse to talk about the other interpretation of this scene, as seen in the graphic novel

I think the addition of "eh?" and the "!" punctuation on "fetch me some wine and a pretty wench" kind of changes his tone completely as compared to the book. He seems much more playful in that panel like a naughty cat pushing water off the table (Dunk is the water)

Here's what stuck out to me from the show

If you look at Aerion when he clambers down from the horse you can tell by the way he moves that he's using a stepladder

The little foot flourish-kick he does...

The way he looks at Dunk is absolutely hilarious. I assume it's meant to be "holy shit he's tall" but he really does look thirsty

Dunk is so cute and gormless and of course the addition of him calming down the horse was like catnip to me. Tabibait

The way that Maekar "places all his best hopes on Aerion" and is the only person for whom Aerion seems to keep up his mask at all times. I love the idea of both of them placing so much of their self worth in the image of the other.

Maekar who is a soldier at heart. Who has raised one son who hates horses and swords and pain, and instead drinks himself into oblivion running from dreams his father cannot understand. Who has a dragon of a second son. One who can win jousts and duels and has the look of house Targaryen that Baelor doesn't have. That Baelor's sons dont have. Who might be the one to be better than them, who can prove Maekar's worth.

Aerion who feeds on attention and praise. Who needs to be the best, the strongest and cruellest, the most beautiful and revered because he is the dragon given human form. A boy who can see the way his father dismisses his elder brother, who finds himself the complete centre of Maekar's world view and sees in that a sense of validation. That his cruelty is his strength, that he was born to burn others because it comes so naturally to him, and his father praises him nonetheless.

I'm just in love with the collapse of it all. Maekar 'punishing' Aerion by sending him to Lys. He only cares to see Aerion's darker nature once it has effected him. Once he has killed his brother, who he loved as much as he envied, and Aerion has publically lost a fight to a hedge knight. Who perhaps thinks he if offering up a light punishment.

And Aerion who is suddenly cut off from that constant stream of praise and attention. Who doesn't see the 'kindness' of Lys, but instead watches his father shift the moniker of the favoured son from his head without so much as a second thought, who sends him away. Who perhaps cannot fathom which element of the trial secured him this rejection. Perhaps he needs to be stronger, fiercer, so next time even a man like Dunk doesn't stand a chance. He needs to become the dragon in truth. Who can't understand why Maekar is torn up over Baelor's death when his uncle fought against him and betrayed their family. He was always expected to be better than the heirs line, but now its a problem that his father won that brotherly fight?

I'm not entierly sure where i'm going with this, but it's just such a delicious dynamic to think about.

Stormscaler isn't even officially a 'dragon' Cast out from a failed clutch of eggs storm scaler crawled around the caves scavenging left overs.

No other rider has ever even approached Stormscaler cuz of its small size, and scale-less slimy looking hide. It's also kind of a skittish asshole

Rhaenyra: starts out as a girlboss capitalist centrist dem but slowly starts to be influenced by her commie girlfriend (not really it's just for the optics)

Daemon: thinks he invented libertarianism. Capitalism was the way of life god intended and that’s why he broke up with his radical commie girlfriend who’s now dating the niece he groomed

Mysaria: the commie girlfriend in question. Would rig a free and fair election tho

Alicent: trad wife who’s been voting republican her whole life because her dad-husband told her to. Socialism is kind of appealing to her and then she gets disgusted with herself for thinking government handouts are okay and repents

Aegon: voted for trump for his economic policies but can’t name one. Says he doesn’t do really politics he just wants to smoke shitty weed and harass women in peace

Aemond: hyper nationalist who got radicalized online. Also randomly a royalist despite living in a democratic system. Lonely because everyone on twitter just wants to bitch about diversity on tv instead of arguing about Nietzsche

Helaena: doesn’t vote but she’s crunchy and spiritual and anti establishment enough that her lefty friends forgive her for this

Corlys: true venture capitalist. Will vote for whoever as long as his stocks and company shares don’t take a hit in the market

Viserys: normie fiscal republican who loves his woke daughter and is fairly reasonable enough that it almost makes you forget his second wife is a teenager

Otto: intellectual republican who pretends to adhere to christian morality just so he can secure the evangelical vote

Larys: opportunist who will just play both sides. has a Peter Thiel technocrat figure he follows around like a eunuch

Cole: weird catholic who is genuinely afraid of going to hell if he votes for an elected official who supports gay marriage. Not even trying to own the libs he's just in active psychosis

Jace: rich liberal kid who plays lacrosse at a boarding school where it’s faux pas to say homophobic slurs
