prepping my bag and outfit for my first Pride of the year is actually giving me such a warm and wonderful feeling. it'll be the first of at least 3 Prides I attend this year, all of which in my official position as a board member of my queer org. knowing how much work and passion goes into it has certainly given me a whole new insight into Pride events. ours is of course the one I'm most proud of, because it's the one I've helped set up and the one I've given so much to over the last year, but I'm truly admirative of all Prides everywhere because so much is needed to make them happen and there are so many people working to bring our community together and I think that's just beautiful.

day 1 of my month of paid holiday until my work contract of 7,5 years ends was spent doing absolutely nothing

and it was wonderful

I power napped twice which is unheard of for me, so I do think between being done with work and getting the job offer yesterday, I'm crashing a bit from the stress relief. also between Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, I volunteered about 22 hours with my queer org, so the weekend wasn't exactly restful and Sunday was especially exhausting

I took a bath in the middle of the day. I read an entire book. very short, only 190 pages because I finished the 2,000 pages Millennium Trilogy last night so I wanted something short. I read 35 pages of a 165 page book and realised I wasn't into it so I set it aside because I've learnt to DNF books I'm not enjoying, there are too many books in the world to waste time on ones I don't care for. I started a 566 page book which is the first of a 2,400+ page tetralogy because apparently a 2,000 page trilogy didn't cure me. in my defence, I've been intrigued by this series for years but always hesitant to read it because I'm not a huge fantasy fan. but I'm really enjoying it so far. and also I've got no work and only lots and lots (and lots) of volunteering planned in June, I've got time to read!

tomorrow I've got some more volunteering, Thursday is a public holiday, on Saturday Düsseldorf Pride (on the main truck because my queer org was invited!!!!!!!!!!!!)

this was my dream once I was fired (with a month's notice longer than contractually agreed) and especially once the interviews with the company went so well: that I would get a job offer in late May, early June so that I could fully enjoy my month off in June and not have to stress about finding a job. I do have 2 interviews lined up next week and I'm not cancelling them until I've signed a contract, but I'm much more relaxed about everything and can enjoy my time off and the very, very, VERY busy last weeks ahead of Pride!

Everyone wants queerness to have countercultural asthetics because that's cooler. Gay graffiti is cooler than glossy pride themed posters. But those posters are better. Both in what level of already achieved progress they represent and their effectiveness in further normalizing queerness. Those posters are what winning looks like.

The problem isn't that a makeup ad is performatively pride themed. The problem is that makeup ads are fucking inescapable. The problem is that we live in a capitalist hellscape where cheeseburger commercials are legit our primary method of asserting shared cultural values. You can't go anywhere or do anything without seeing ads. You should be pissed about the straight ones too.

the thing about being a homeschool abolition hardliner is that people always want to come to you with some bullshit sob story about how you hate disabled people because they were bullied for being autistic and homeschooling was so amazing for them. and it's just like well unfortunately homeschooling is also a widespread tool of coercive control in child abuse used by christofascists to raise kids without the tools they need to function in the world so that they will always be afraid, dependent, and unable to think critically and discern right from wrong and truth from lies. so unfortunately i do think this is a situation where in order to prevent enormous harm to untold numbers of children those bullied kids who just don't wanna go to school are going to have to suck it up. (and in reality what i always propose is a more robust system of alternative/magnet public schooling set up for kids who are basically on grade level but who DO struggle to thrive in a mainstream setting, but nobody ever wants to hear that, they just want to guilt you for not thinking anyone who ever gets picked on should just get to stay home and play vidya and do all their lessons on zoom. and it's like honestly i don't think you're having this argument in good faith bc you are very much centering hypothetical discomfort you MIGHT HYPOTHETICALLY have experienced over, again, widespread child abuse and neglect. so.)

It’s so frustrating that when there’s an overwhelmingly common and dangerous phenomenon related to something so you say “Hm, seems like a sane and responsible society should ban or regulate this.” And you get hit by a million responses that amount to…

“Oh? [X thing] has a documented extremely negative impact on a large group of people?? And you’re critiquing it? Well I did [x thing] and that horrible thing never happened. I guess you’re just PERSONALLY ATTACKING me.”

“Have you considered the nuanced reality that if something is beneficial to me in any way then everyone who has been deeply harmed by it should simply eat shit? Also if they criticize it it’s because they hate me specifically?”

“What about those of us who actually ENJOY AND LIKE [x thing] and also feel entitled to never have access to something that I like restricted? Hmm? What about us?”

It’s not actually possible to have a functioning society where everyone does whatever they want all the time. You can’t just trust that your populace is going to do the best possible version of everything. I’m absolutely sure there’s a lot of responsible gun owners in the US — unfortunately, the negative societal impact of guns means that in a sane, effective society (which ofc the US isn’t) they’d still be banned. There are some things that are more important than you and what you like and what is beneficial to you. Some things are worse than other things, like objectively worse. Some things are more important than you.

This is the very definition of hyper-individualism. If something is working for you, it must continue. No one else matters. No one’s suffering could ever be more important than your own.

so turns out, something happens that you were always worried about happening someday as a hypothetical and more recently were actually dreading in a much more practical sense. and it sucks, and you're not out of the woods yet, not at all, but you deal with it, and think "okay, so now I deal, and I try to find the positives in it, and if it happens again in the future (which I really hope it won't), I can actually deal with it, it's bad but maybe not that bad???"

sailing right into wanting something so so so much and trying to keep the hope down to avoid disappointment. Q2 2026 roller-coaster going strong and I would like to please be off it by Q3, thank you. on the one hand it feels too easy and it feels like if it does go well, I'll be scared again because surely it won't go that well next time, if it ever happens again. on the other hand I just want and need it to work out. please please please, just work out because now my hopes are stupid high, even if I'm trying to contain them, and I want this so much!!!!

oh yeah, btw, very late update but I was busy and also tonight I'm very actively thinking about this. the thing Thursday last week went very very well, better than I expected, and so the hope is even higher now and also the wanting it is sky high. still trying to keep it chill because it's not over, next round on Tuesday, which is already a good sign and I'm hoping it'll go well. I'll be crushed if it doesn't, so trying not to have my hopes too high but it's hard!!

I've already dreamt about it twice and both times it went well. last time I dreamt about an important thing coming up that I was EXTREMELY nervous about, I dreamt it would go well and it actually went even better. I was fully catastrophising while conscious but dreamt it went well and it did. and this is in very recent history, literally less than 2 weeks ago, because it's what I was talking about in the tags of the original post. I'm not one to believe in premonitory dreams or whatever. all it means is that my subconscious brain is optimistic about it. but I'm actually really hoping that it goes as well as in my dreams. please please please universe, I need this!!!!

so so so much relief. that I've got a job lined up as soon as my current one ends, that I can enjoy the month of June I've got off without the added stress of looking for a job, especially as I've got so much to do with Pride this month!!!

and the reason I got so excited and wanted it so much after the first interview is that the job isn't exactly what I imagined from the description and it actually fits me so well. I'm genuinely a great fit for it and am thrilled that I was able to put that across in the interviews.
