Two sons and a dad
Humans are not fun to draw, at all. I already want to give up on drawing them honestly. This one is the only decent one.
Cyborg Switch
Wanted a Switch so bad this is what happened.
I haven't forgotten about this account. Still here, still going to post. Trying to draw more things now. Maybe start making fanart so I actually get some interaction out of this website.
Oh, and here's a somewhat festive otter pic in two fur colors. Wonder if he's been naughty or nice?? My quality is getting better, pretty happy ‘bout that.
So close to 100 that I might as well make an effort to reach it. If you want, follow me @Aetaur It'll make Twitter feel worth keeping up with.
It’s a bit sloppy but I just wanted to get an idea of how Ishma and Etza would look full scale. Ishma always get a little annoyed when Etza is around, she is the ultimate rival to him.
I know I haven’t really established their character yet, but by what you can see who do you like better? The angel or the serpent?
Zjarrpé - The Fire Wisp Pokemon
Zjarrpé tends to resist their trainers, even the most docile ones, making them one of the most difficult to train. Zjarrpé tooth are sold at extremely high rates and because of the value of the tooth they are subjected to poaching, which makes them even more valuable. If you’re lucky enough to be entrusted with one, trainers are made to take an oath to protect and never exploit it for personal gain. It flips up its hoodie when hiding emotion.
Jarpsypher - The Fire Arm Pokemon
Fire/Psychic
It uses it’s psychic power to form super powered arms. Not only does it have a golden tooth, it has a skeleton also made of complete gold, according to rumors. Jarpsypher has excellent physical and mental strength. A well trained Jarpsypher is said to be nearly impossible to defeat.
Ability: Psycho 100 - When its HP is half or below, its defense and special defense are doubled.
Thank-you all for 104 followers!
I’m surprised I even have that much now! I should try to interact with you all more! (Unless majority are ghost followers, in that case it won’t work very well. Haha!)
This guy doesn’t have a name yet, maybe Jarpsypher. Drawing Fakemon is one of my favorite things to draw. I still wish there was a fire snake in Sun & Moon. We got Salandit though so it’s close enough I guess. (I just noticed I never posted my pre-evolution of this guy on this blog.)
Thanks again! Hopefully we’ll keep growing! I appreciate every single one of you!
Notes for a young character designer
Dear E.
Thanks for your email.
I don’t work at Cartoon Network any more. But I’m going to give you a very quick portfolio review in hopes that you find it helpful! Here are some things I noticed when looking at your stuff - lessons I learned from brilliant people while working on AT for two years:
1) AVOID SYMMETRY. Humans are organic, randomly shaped animals. Perfect symmetry rarely exists in nature and if it does, it’s conspicuous - it’s the exception rather than the rule. Find interesting ways to throw your characters off-balance.
Don’t repeat objects in twos - (buttons or rips or whatever) - it feels prescribed - cluster things in threes or fives if necessary.
2) AVOID CONCAVITY - I don’t know what else to call this. But it’s those lines that go “in” rather than “out”. You are using inward sloping lines to describe many of your characters. As an exercise, try using outward, rounded, voluminous lines to draw EVERYTHING. Humans are fleshy lumps connected together by other fleshy lumps. Each mass is either in front of or behind other masses and as a designer, it’s your job to tell the animator where it is. As a designer, you are providing a technical blueprint for the location of masses.
Only occasionally allow a concavity to connect two convexities. Look at the work of Robert Ryan Cory (spongebob), Tom Herpich (Adventure Time) or Phil Rynda (AT / Gravity Falls) - master character designers - for examples of this. If you need to, trace a couple of their drawings and you will see what I mean.
3) AVOID GRAPHIC DETAILS - Some shows use a graphic style; it’s very appealing and looks clever when done right. But in animation, everything needs to move in space - so if you use a graphic element - it needs to correspond with an actual 3D thing that can move. Therefore it is better to start with a voluminous style and then revert to graphic elements where appropriate. Art directors will look for this. Do not jump straight to graphic representation if you do not yet know what you are representing.
Look at the work of Tiffany Ford and Jasmin Lai for amazing examples of volume expressed graphically.
4) STUDY JAMES MCMULLEN - To truly understand volume, and fully respect your subject, you should read very carefully High Focus Figure Drawing by James McMullen. Slow down and think about drawing “around” your subjects. It’s a truly meditative experience when you get there. Think about the weight and mass that your characters, props and effects are experiencing. Many students from SVA - Tomer Hanuka, Becky Cloonan, Rebecca Sugar, James Jean - studied under McMullen’s philosophy and you can see this common richness in their work.
Jeffrey Smith, a top student of McMullen’s now teaches life drawing at Art Center. These are two of the best illustration schools in North America - anyone who is interested in drawing living things, should probably read his book. Also look at the work of Andy Ristaino or Danny Hynes - two other character designers’ whose work is seething with volume.
I hope this is useful and I hope you have a wonderful career.
Warmest,
Matt
This sounds like something I need to look into! Could help me out a lot!
MORE ART IS COMING!!!
I finally have my computer back so I can start where I left off now! It arrived yesterday so I’m setting up everything and re-downloading the programs I had! So stay tuned!
These are my Dreamies for Animal Crossing. I already have Walt and Cherry. There are tons of villagers and I had a hard time picking just 10. I might or might not have a second list of Dreamies. If any of you play AC:NL and would like to friend me then let me know!
Edit: My town accidentally got deleted so I have different villagers. I now have Alfonso, Cherry, and Keaton! Walt is still gone though :’(
Popplio evolution v2
🌟Majestlio💧They collect gemstones found on the ocean floor and makes a belt of gems around its waist, the stones are said to reflect the Majestlio’s personality. The bubbles in its transparent mane are highly explosive. It surrounds them in a high-compact water veil to keep them from activating. They are only used in life threatening battles and a good natured Majestlio will refuse to use them in competitions. Though with competitive ones exceptions can be made.
The flower-like tail can be soaked in warm water to make tea. This tea is said to extend a drinkers life. Majestlio will constantly give this tea to someone it wants around for a long time.
Election 2016.
Packed and ready to move to Mars.
Either way this election was not for me.

Have this beautiful song!
