i know i’m late to the party a couple of years, BUT GUYS, let’s talk about erik thurgilson because i’m completely and 100% in love with him. he was just a big soft puppy that was in need of affection and love. all he ever wanted was to raise a family of his own with the woman he loves, but all he got to do was give his life to protect her. he wanted aethelflaed to be free and he made it happen, even if that meant dying for her. he gave her the future he wanted her to have with him. 

i cry even thinking about how happy his face was when he was on his way to visit her (before they put her in that cage). i cry even thinking about how soft he always was around her. and i will cry about this precious, pure and tragic love story forever. we had it all, and then we had nothing.

ERIK DESERVED BETTER.

Unfortunately I have no writing talents but I can recommend the following:

Sparrow and the Wolf is the only modern AU Aethelrik I have read, but this one’s still unfinished - it’s about Aethelflaed (who’s still together with her abusive boyfriend Aethelred) as a uni student and she stumbled upon a college building under construction and Erik was there – maybe as a contractor or a building engineer?? I’m looking forward to the next chapter really!

There’s also this fanfic about Erik & Aethelflaed AU - similar to what happened in the show but with a satisfactory ending, y’all should read THIS as well!!
