The older i get the more i understand why some people become obsessed with privacy, not because they’re hiding something, but because being constantly perceived starts to feel spiritually exhausting.

All it means when people say “you’re speaking from a place of privilege” is that you’re likely to underestimate how bad the problem is by default because you are never personally exposed to that problem. It’s not a moral judgement of how difficult your life is.

I do sometimes catch myself thinking “I just don’t understand men.” But that isn’t due to a different in essence, rather a difference in life experience and social positionality.

In reality, contrary to the overall statistical trend, there are some men I do understand very well, and some women who I do not understand at all.

In general we tend to understand those people who are similar to ourselves, and fail to understand those who are different. This can generally be overcome through study, exposure, and experience.

Even if you fail to understand someone else on a rational level, you can attempt to extend empathy to people who are radically different from yourself. That is one of the inherent gifts of being a social animal.
