does anybody know of a discord for people with feeding tubes? i have a friend looking for one
Sometimes chronic illness is like, “I’m in such excruciating pain that I feel like I’m going to either keel over or pass out. Obviously it is time to do my laundry.”
The Disabled Need a Place On the Left That Will Feel Safe. As Of Yet, We Don’t Have That.
It is a fact that the left does not care about inclusivity the way it claims to. The moment a disabled person brings up a valid concern, it is pushed down and degraded by the people who should be helping to uplift it. This is what has happened to myself and many others in groups such as Democratic Socialists of America, Secular Student Alliance, local Democratic/Socialist groups, and so many other leftist organizations.
When it comes down to it, at the end of the day: the disabled are disposable. We need to come up with a way to protect ourselves. To organize into a group of our own to ensure that our needs and rights are taken care of, just like those of the abled. Medicare for all is a great idea. But it will not solve every issue that we have about accessibility, health, etc. Working towards the rights of the working class is great. But it won’t solve every issue either. I have been put down in group after group, I have been told that MY LIFE is not a priority for them. That there is no spoons to cover another area of concern. Spoons. An appropriation of our very own terminology used against us.
Well, that’s fine. Keep it. Keep my spoons. I’ll reload with knives. So who’s with me? Who will help me form a leftist group that will serve our needs?
At some point in all this I met a reporter who began a conversation. He asked if I was involved in the disability rights demonstration. I said yes, but just a little, as I was visiting my daughter. He asked if she was a demonstrator. I said she was. He asked if she had ever been arrested. I said she might have been.
But the word might didn’t quite cover it. In reality, she had been arrested an extraordinary number of times and was jailed on almost every occasion. She’d been in jail thirty times, if not more. She’d been jailed more times than Al Capone, and exponentially more than any other Harvard graduate. She’d been shoved into inaccessible police vans without ramps or lifts and bundled off to inaccessible jails reached only by flights of stairs. She was a connoisseur of jails across the country. She could teach you how to act while being arrested, what to expect if you went to jail, and how to handle yourself while you were there.
The reporter looked at me with pity. “You have my sympathy,” he said.
“No need,” I told him.

Being used to suffering does not mean it doesn’t hurt anymore
Me talking to myself throughout the day.
An Abled™: Have you tried......

An Abled™: .........yoga?

Before the coronavirus pandemic:
Me: Hey can I have some accommodations for my exams? Because of my brain damage, it’s hard for me to study and I need extra support. Even just giving me a website to use to study on is great.
Teachers: Hmm,, idk dude it’s just,,, really inconvenient for us,, like, can’t you just stop having it and be normal,?
Now, because of the coronavirus pandemic:
Teachers: YOU get extra study support! YOU get extra study support! Everyone gets extra study support!
Amazing how disabled people needing accommodations is “inconvenient” for ableds until abled people need it 🤷🏻♂️
quick question: how the fuck do I get through the rest of my life like this
