Love finds funny ways to tell you that it never left,
It hides along the curbs of the roads
holding a placard, “Lost love. It will find you”
It sits besides you in cab rides
engaging in awkward small talk,
It’s in conversations over coffee
in old cafes on forgotten streets,
It’s in the laughter of strangers shared over a cheesy joke
Or the blush of lovers as they paint the sky red,
It follows you on your way back home,
It’s the sound of a phone call
or the ping of an expected text,
It’s the smile that comes after,
Love hides in shared silences,
It waits next to your unread books
and turns pages of a story that could’ve been,
It’s the music that plays in shared earphones,
It’s the sound of tangled heartbeats,
It dwells near bouquet shops
and waits for lovers to pick roses for someone they wish to live a forever with,
Or maybe for someone who couldn’t be more than a dream,
It stands a few feet away from you
every time that you talk to someone new
only waiting for you to give in once again,
When you try to run from love
It starts appearing in things you see everyday,
You see it in a couple standing in a crowded train not aware of the things around them,
Love hides behind newspapers and sneaks glances at you when you’re not looking,
It waits in a bookstore with your favourite book in hand
Hoping to have a conversation that would lead to a forever after,
It sits on the outside looking in,
It hides in familiar scents and forgotten words,
It’s in shared interests and benign smiles,
Because even though you threw it out,
Love would always find a way to you again,
And you can never say no.
