"omg you remembered!" of course i did. I have a file on you
neil with his binder
He just wants to fucking play exy guys come on SOMEONE DRIVE HIM
thinking a lot about Neil and Katelyn never getting the twins confused. not because of their looks but the micro mannerisms that only they notice. and one day one of the twins mocks the other, maybe Aaron mimicking Andrew’s dramatic shrugs or Andrew repeating back with Aaron said in the Exact tone and cadence. and Neil and Katelyn just. stare. for a solid minute. and then start yelling in equal disgust NEVER do that again, that was appalling you BECAME him- OH MY GOD IS THIS WHAT EVERYONE ELSE SEES??
neil starts acquiring keys. first the keys to the foxhole court, then to andrew’s house. andrew’s car. wymack’s apartment. abby’s house. his key ring gets heavy and andrew gets him a carabiner so he can clip it onto his backpack, his belt loop, his duffel bag on overnight trips. he likes the sound of it, the jingle. it reminds him of home. the foxes realize he likes it and start to get him keychains as gifts. he adds them all, even when his carabiner starts to get excessively crowded. it becomes a tradition that whenever any of the foxes move into a new house they give neil a copy of their new key. he keeps them all. he’s not nothing anymore. he has so many people and so many homes he doesn’t know where to put them all
Kevin gets shot in the thigh
Kevin: fuck I have a game next week
Headcanon that, after years on the run, Neil develops an inhuman ability to spot anyone watching him (especially cameras). It's usually when they are out and a fan spots them or some reporters trying to get a story, but it also happens during press time after games; the main camera pointing at them as the reporter asks them questions and Neil can't help but notice that other one in the back from another News channel filming even if it's not their turn yet.
Neil can't help the anxiety spike triggered by trauma and years of hiding, so when he usually hides behind Kevin and Kevin will take the spotlight without arguing understanding of Neil's reaction. It's always discreet with them, but if Kevin is not there, Neil tends to hide behind Matt.
It takes Matt a few times to understand what's going on, but after a few incidents of Neil suddenly stopping talking and moving to Matt's side, he starts to spot the cameras and realise what's going on too. But he isn't like Kevin, just accepting his role as a human shield. No, Matt starts smiling at whichever camera Neil is running away from and sticks his tongue out. Every time.
It goes low-key viral and it's one of the first things to pop up if you google Matt.
Years later, after Kevin and Matt graduate, Neil gets the feeling someone is filming him again and his first instinct is to hide. There is a really weird moment when Neil realises Matt's not there but instead of using another person as a shield, Neil looks directly at the fan's camera, smiles and sticks his tongue out in Matt's honour.
A few days later, Matt sends him a screenshot of that moment with the message "haha, miss you buddy".
It becomes their thing and they both do it whenever they spot a camera they shouldn't. Neil isn't sure when it happened but he slowly stops feeling the anxiety and is eager whenever he spots a camera because he gets the chance to do it again and knows he'll see Matt a few days later doing the same thing.
There are hundreds of compilations of them sticking their tongues out. It becomes a well known inside joke in the exy world; Matt Boyd and Neil Josten being best friends.
One of the funniest things from the fandom has to be Kevin Day being the character that’s passed around from ship to ship. Man had so much sex appeal the fandom cannot decide if they should put him on a pedestal without a relationship or put him in as many open relationships that make him a one man polyamory group connector piece. Love it!
BOOM
foxes read books about themselves🦊
one day neil is gonna get hurt and one of the foxes is gonna ask if he's okay and he's gonna practically spit through clenched teeth and a snarl "NO! It fucking hurts!" and all the foxes gathered round him are gonna freeze and short circuit as they collectively process with dawning horror just how much pain neil has to be in to admit it
So it's not my circus, but one of my monkeys did previously work there so i actually have a lot of opinion's on the circus' labor practices
- David Wymack
neil, from his pov: i'm trying so hard to shut my mouth. i really am. i am trying so hard and everyone else is just testing me
neil, from jean's pov: he is the biggest instigator in the world. he does everything to piss someone off. this man has the biggest mouth in the world
idk when this started in my head but, I think a lot about the foxes having their own language. like. taking common sayings and making it their own with inside jokes.
“fork found in kitchen” ummm no, Neil found in crime scene. Kevin found in court. Wymack found in bar.
"kill two birds one stone", no, that's two moriyamas, one neil
"long story short" is actually long story minyard. double points bc they are short in stature and words alike
I will always love the characters height in aftg. Cause usually in books all the male characters are somehow taller than the female characters. And if by some miracle a male character is short, they're usually described as petite/weak/cute and not that intimidating. But aftg? Neil is 5'3, the twins are 5'0, and all of the girls are taller than them. And Neil is the son of a serial killer, Aaron committed murder to protect his brother, and Andrew is self-explanatory.
