hi aftg fandom!

do you like to read teeny-tiny fics? do you enjoy writing a little morsel of an idea or a tease of a story that just tickles at the imagination? do you find yourself without the time to develop big ideas but still want to write? do you want to practice your word economy? do you want to get out of a slump and write something, anything? do you just like a good challenge? do you want to read new mini stories every week? some kind of combination of some of the above? all of the above? well, either way: you're in the right place!

how so?

well, simple as:

we post a prompt (usually quite vague/open—think a single word, an expression/proverb, a song) every Thursday

you let the prompt inspire you and you write either a microfic (exactly 50 words), a drabble (exactly 100 words), or a double drabble (exactly 200 words)

the wordcount is the only strict rule : characters, pov, pairing (or no pairing! that's always an option!), theme, and rating are all up to you! the world is your oyster!

you post the fic on tumblr and either @ us directly or use the #aftgtinyfic tag so we can reblog (you can also post to our collection on ao3!)

no sign-up, no commitment, no deadline, just some good ol' fun and (hopefully) lots of tiny fics. if the prompt inspires, go for it!!!

Andrew’s hand in his doesn’t make any of this better. This ridiculous, freezing cemetery, these mourners—family—Neil doesn’t know, his mother’s name on the headstone. “This was important to her,” Stuart says. The Butcher being dead was important. For that, Stuart can have all the late funerals he wants.

Neil Josten is dead.

He died the moment the envelope revealed three neatly severed fingers—such a cliché that he only stopped laughing when Aaron punched his mouth shut.

There’s been no time to mourn, neither Andrew nor Neil.

Nathaniel packed a bag, Andrew's knives, and started down the warpath.

The cold gun against his neck, warm blood on his face. Tetsuji knew he’d be next: the responsibility more his than his youngest nephew’s. “Last words?” I hope I go where she is, so I can beg forgiveness for all the ways I wronged her. “Kayl—“ Ichirou pulls the trigger.

Wind tousles Neil's hair as he stands on the beach. Waves nip at the toes of his sandals, just out of reach. Digging into his pocket, he produces a half-empty pack of cigarettes and a zippo, a small comfort he afforded himself in private with Andrew being years off of them.

The clink of the lighter flicking to life shifts something inside of him, dusting away the cobwebs in a corner of his heart Neil had long buried. The curl of smoke up towards his face and into the seaside breeze has him closing his eyes. Reminiscence.

The cigarette burns and burns and burns until it fizzles out at the filter. Neil hums, a short, toneless note, as he lifts his gaze to the ocean waves. He has half a mind to toss the cigarette butt down and leave it. Yet another memento of Neil Josten left behind here for someone else to unbury.

Instead, he tucks it back into the pack and the pack and zippo back into his pockets. His sandals sink down into the sand as he walks across it. Neil makes his slow return from the beach back to the road where Andrew waited, ever vigilant.

Prompt: Full circle

Jenny is Black, a girl, and about three apples tall.

“When I'm big,” she promises, eyes fierce, “I will be a class I team captain.”

Dan believes her, believes in her. She has learned from her best coach that empathy for your players is an asset, but too much of it will leave you bleeding. Still, she can't help her overwhelming pride for this brave little girl, saying I will be someone, I will prove it to you. 

Jenny doesn't doubt it can be done: There is a hole in the glass ceiling—Dan carries the scars from breaking through.

This day is the happiest of his life—

But it isn't perfect.

Andrew said it doesn't need to be, as long as it's the two of them and their family.

Neil called him a sap after that.

Andrew threatened to stab him.

But still, standing on the grass barefoot as the officiant starts the wedding, he can't help but wish that they had a full circle to bless their union.

Then, movement:

"Mum," he breathes. "You came."

She's unsmiling, but nods at him and moves quickly to stand between Matt and Aaron.

And now they have a full witness circle.

Allison understands hunger in a way most people don't.

She's felt it eating through her stomach while she stubbornly sways away from it.

She's sated the more metaphorical version with exy and Seth, both of which she's told are bad for her.

But she doesn't want to be hungry forever.
