Moon Joy June: Launch Inspo
Moon Joy June artists! Looking for a little inspiration? The prompt for this week is “Launch.” Here is a small collection of photos of the launch of the Artemis II mission, which took place on April 1, 2026. What followed was ten days of our Artemis astronauts circling the Moon, returning to Earth, and experiencing pure Moon joy all throughout.
You can find more launch photos here. If you’re feeling inspired to make some art, you can share your creations on Tumblr with the #ArtemisArtShow hashtag!
At the gallery link, clicking on each image brings up a fuller image + description, but there is one video! where clicking on it does not seem to work. I am not quite sure what is wrong with the link (https://www.nasa.gov/video-detail/art002m1200912222b-saj-jettison-2-3/) but it just goes to https://www.nasa.gov/images/
Because I am me, I tracked down where I could watch the video anyway, and to hopefully save someone else the same trouble, I'm sharing it here: https://images.nasa.gov/details/art002m1200912222B_SAJ-Jettison_2
Moon (and investigation) joy!
Ooh, this long sideways shot showing how far the launch plume extends is nice!

yk its actually very chic and avant garde to start on tuesday the second
many claim theres nothing more subversive and revolutionary than starting on wednesday the third

We once had a family vacation where my dad was taking bumpy dirt roads at speed in his Subaru Forester, while I tried to keep up with him in my [checks notes] Nissan Sentra
I literally had to get my shocks replaced after that trip
A success story! On a trip my mom and I were once driving two separate cars, and we conferred together beforehand and agreed on exactly what route we were going to take, and she was ahead of me
And then while we were in motion I realized I had fucked up how many exits away our destination was when we were going over the directions, so the one we had planned to take was actually the wrong one
So I overtook her and merged back in directly in front of her to guide her to the correct exit
Fortunately she was like "Hm. My daughter must be deviating from the plan we just made For A Reason. I will just follow her and find out when we get there what the reason is" so it all worked out :-)
huge fan of the depth of a good purple but another area that draws me is definitely around aquamarine/turquoise/seafoam. you can not go wrong once the green starts getting just a tinge more blue. a gal could certainly do worse than to pull over there and stay a while
something earth shattering going on here
this is why one of my favorite all-time paintings is Ship in Stormy Seas by Ivan Aivazovsky... he was really onto something there
a close up to just... light shining through those waves, makes me feel faint with exhilaration every time
THERE IS A BOAT BY IVAN AIVAZOVSKY!!
Ivan Aivazovsky could paint glowing water. One of the GOATs for sure.
@mllekurtz
this sounds like a party to me

"Okay you're colouring your plushie? Does it at least glow in the dark now? OH SHIT"
I see trompe l'oeil is making a comeback.
My speck #myspeck
(It's a hawk of some kind, I wasn't paying attention to what type though. There was two of them at one point!! The other flew out of frame before i took the photo. Very exciting stuff)
i have a Persian agenda where i encourage every man i know to grow the longest and prettiest hair possible
personal agenda. Personal.
i’m speechless. there’s a guy for everything.

'Is it raining where you are? '
She has more! Here's her website. She lives in the Peak District, England.
"A little shower"
"Proper big rain, that"
She has a lot of sky paintings with good colours but I particularly enjoy her human figures:
In order: Knackered / He's knackered too / The bears are really knackered / The heterosexuals, they're bloody knackered / The lesbians are knackered too / The polyamorous... well, you would be knackered, wouldn't you?
And this was just charming:
"Enjoying a little soak"
punch punch punch punch punch punch punch punch punch
I'm so normal about them I swear
I need to see this movie…
Its like this but Godzilla actually does show up
Wait this is some galaxy brain shit actually, I'm gonna have to start doing this.
Babysitting a toddler is a lot like being the narration in a point-and-click adventure game. Watching him knock on the doors of empty rooms and saying "hmm. I don't think anyone's in there". Watching him attempt to use [spoon] on [cat] and saying "I don't think those things go together". Watching him throw a cup of water onto the floor and just commenting "the floor is wet now" when he looks up at me to see if I approve.
