To say this a brilliant album would be selling it short. Originally said to be based on the struggles in the eyes of a transgender prostitute, before lead singer and heart of Against Me!, Laura Jane Grace came out to her family, band, and world as a transgender woman to reveal the autobiographical content she had in store. This album, Transgender Dysphoria Blues, takes you on a journey of her heartache, her everyday waking nightmares, and her struggles with dysphoria, creating one of the greatest punk albums in decades, and one of the most important albums of all time... 2014 has seen a massive increase of albums from pop-punk bands, as this seems to be the growing craze, but one of those dirty high school bands really did it right. Earlier in the year, Modern Baseball released their second full-length record, You’re Gonna Miss It All, which is filled with “matter of fact” lyrics that knock you from your feet, as they take you back to all those terrible feelings of being trapped between your teenage years and adulthood... Typically, I find prefaces extremely unnecessary, but not in this case, as it sets the “haunting” tone of this entire album. I’m not really sure if it’s a break-up album, a “I’ll never love another like you” album, or a mixture of both, as the maturity in the lyrics, the music, and Adam’s voice makes it one of my favorite releases they have to date... The second full-length record from the two-piece Dads, I’ll Be the Tornado is a broken hearted anthem, filled with beautiful written words and a voice unlike any other.
