It wasn’t that Joanne Slugger was lying face down on the street. The street, of course, was lying atop of her. It was an easy mistake to make, but the distinction was important. At least, it was to Slugger. She liked to maintain a positive outlook on things, and this was no different. She had been doing something before this, she’s sure of it. What was it again? She tries to think in the swirling rain. Ah – yes. She had been falling face down. That had been it.
