Microaggressions against polyamory in interpersonal interactions are important and should be discussed, but I do wish more of the conversation focused on the ways that systemic amatonormativity impact things like family units, taxes, healthcare, inheritances, housing, childcare, etc.

I'm not dating or married or related to anyone I live with, and our household of four adults can't get any kind of financial or food or housing aid because we count as three separate households despite our semi-blended finances and living together for a decade. There are laws that have been proposed (at least, I don't know if any passed) that limit housing to nuclear families.

Amatonormativity and polyphobia are not just theoretical "people are kinda mean about this sometimes" -- they are real and materially impactful systemic issues, and they affect all of us.

Whenever they gave us one of those "read through ALL the instructions before you begin!" trick assignments in school where the steps lead you on an increasingly ridiculous goose chase until the final one tells you to just put your name on the paper and turn it in without doing anything else, I was always like, "Okay, but what's the point? Surely the REAL world won't be anything like this." And then I grew up and discovered that not only is the real world often exactly like that, some people won't even read the first line of the instructions even if they make perfect sense. And these people are called "co-workers"

The 2026 Gender Census is now open!

The 13th annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 13th August 2026.

It’s short and easy, for most participants it takes 5 minutes or less.

After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.

Laketober 2025: Day 10 - Paradox

I had to draw this for my favourite Cube Escape game!

I drew Lieutenant Commander Owusu for Art Fight this year!

I think Eartha Owusu would have an awesome time visiting the ocean world Oistir! Much of the textiles on-planet are made of wax-sealed mosses. Oromi craft jewelry like necklaces, earrings, and other accessories made out of seashells. Cute outfits... AND ALIEN MOSS?!

Laketober 2025: Day 25 - Paradise

"The Sacrificial Son"

The Fallen Angel (L'Ange déchu pour les frenchies) by Alexandre Cabanel is one of my favourite paintings ever. Paradise is my favourite Rusty Lake game. While thinking about what I could do for it this Laketober, the idea hit me to make a reference to Cabanel's painting.. and here we are! :D

It was really fun to try and adapt the composition to my style and adding elements from the game. I poured all my heart into this! I hope you all like it!
