I'm still kind of hoping that at least one deck will be a split race/class tribal deck. It could have a legendary Human Shaman as the leader, for example, that gives bonuses to humans and to shamans. Then the other legendary creatures in the deck could be a more traditional Human lord and a Shaman lord to allow flexibility in expanding the deck, but also adding a few more potential tribal-based leaders. Goblin/Wizard, Merfolk/Rogue, Human/Soldier... there are so many cool combos.

That’s an interesting idea, although it makes you wonder why they wouldn’t just spin one of them off into a fifth deck instead of breaking with tradition by making four.

It must have been mentioned already but I keep wondering if they're going the classic route since this is the 25th of Magic.

Four decks, four dragons are spoiled and they all have a second type - artifact, cat, avatar, spirit. All types that have been part of mtg and have been a thing at some point along the years.

It kinda makes sense that each dragon would be a commander to honor the EDH origins.

Any thoughts?

Standard Question

Slowly getting interested to standard and was looking at the last year events and changes and wondered what some of you might think about this: Was it Marvel that made Emrakul broken? 

It seems to me like what caused the Titan’s fall was this artifact that cheated it into play.

Any thoughts?

Hidden Gems - White 2 Mana (Part 1)

My first part of Hidden Gems had a great reception, so here we go, plowing ahead with part 2 - White cards with CMC of 2.

Side note, I’m rescinding my previous self-induced limit of 500 cards. It’s now whatever I want. I run this blog. 

It’d be a shame to miss something that was at 501 cards.

I also split it into 2 parts - the first for older cards, the next for newer cards (most of them are in Standard, or had a recent printing).

First pack was an Unlimited Deckmaster box. I was so confused at first with all those copies of plains and islands and such jntil someone explained they were "currency" to put the other cards on the table. Now I'm an old mage with the heart of a 14 year old.

Braindead Dragons

After tapping the crap out of my Brago deck for 5-6 days in a row my brain was fried. So I built a simple straight forward 5 colour dragon deck. My lgs was selling some foils for 50 cents each so I got about 16 of them and then added ramp, draw, removal and recursion. Once I get my fill of lighter play, I am going for the Commander's Brew "Math" deck. So confusing and funny! 😂

APB ON FAKE MTG CARDS

My shop just had a run in with a handful of fake cards. The main targets seem to be Zendikar fetches and Original Ravnica shocklands. They made it to us from Orlando but who knows if they originated there.

Signs of these fakes are: Texture - The cards tend to feel a little slick compared to a real Magic card.

Thickness - If you look at it from the side close enough, there’s a double layer to them.

Coloration - The backs of the fakes are lighter than the real cards.

If anyone would like to spread this around, please do so. I’m tagging a few people I know in Florida or work at shops to get started.

The feel and coloration aspects can be misleading since WotC prints from various places. It is common for cards to be darker or lighter especially with older expansions, same with the finish. I've experienced this even within a prerelease box where one pack was darker then the rest.
