If I never see you again, I will always carry you inside, outside, on my fingertips and at brain edges, and in centers. Centers of what I am of what remains. - Charles Bukowski

The very first lesson I learned in life is that people will only love you if you are useful. So, I set out to be useful. Never once in 30 years did I think that had anything to do with what sex organs I was given at conception. The fact that I am a female never played into the equation. I read, I listened, I learned from every source available. This has been a life of trial and error. I should say that it had been a life of trial and error; it had been a life. It ceased to be any such thing like life when I stepped too far back in time to West Virginia’s least famous middle of nowhere. Time seemed to stop within the borders of the tri-county area of Hampshire, Hardy and Mineral. Most days it doesn’t tick beyond the 1960′s. “What do you mean there was a sexual revolution!?” Other days I expect to be burned at the stake because I know that the Earth is not flat and it does revolve around the Sun. “Witchcraft! She has been sent here by the Devil.” Those are, what we now call, Tequila Tuesdays.
The day gets so bad you have Tequila for dinner and hope to reset the hard drive. Wednesday is all about recovery from the wreck of the day before and it is possible. After five years of this I still haven’t figured out why and my liver is still functioning. I told you that part to tell you this one. We’ve all had those jobs. Here, if you are so fortunate to actually find a job that doesn’t require driving to the next state. The ones that hold so much promise and enthusiasm that you actually love going there, but then, people happen. Your coworkers are negative, demanding, spoiled, bitches. They are so stupid that they don’t know Corporate started screwing them over about four months ago. “We’ll severely diminish the quarterly bonus and just tell them that it’s like they’re earning an extra dollar an hour. Genuis!” The customers are not intelligent enough to use gas pumps or touch screens. These are the people who still have flip phones only because they still make them. If it ain’t broke, they ain’t paying for it. “Give me four Keno tickets and ten of those scratch offs.” Their diet consist of six chili cheese hotdogs, buckets of fries, and 36 packs of Natty Light. Finding a man with the sleeves not cut off from every t-shirt he owns is a game of needle in the hay bale. When you finally do meet one you find yourself instantly attracted to him. A rare Adonis in field of car parts and cow shit. If you work in a convenience store long enough...two weeks should do it...you realize that this area doesn’t have a poverty issue, it has a money management issue. I have said that I can’t wait until I go back to America. I said this frequently until I was sitting at a red light and it hit me that this is the most American place on the face of the round Earth. That red light is one of two in the whole town and it is in front of a McDonald’s to break up the traffic jam of people trying to pull out of the parking lot. Their passengers loaded down with burgers, fries, chicken tenders, and trays of Diet Coke or Mountain Dew. Trashcans are the preferred drink in almost every bar and when they go on vacation it’s never off the East Coast. Well, someone had to stay behind while everyone else was taking part in Manifest Destiny and westward expansion. “What’s on the other side of West Virginia, Pap? You must never go there, boy.” A good luck paying your taxes at the county courthouse. They don’t take credit cards, it’s cash or check. Yes, they still make those and yes, they are probably laundering the money for embezzlement later on. You’ll pay yearly taxes on everything from your car to your couch. As far as this state knows I don’t own three dogs. If you’re going to move here leave your education, years of experience, and commonsense at state line. Wrap them up in the t-shirt sleeves you’ve cut off and toss it out the window like a lit Pall Mall cigarette and an empty beer can.
We must walk consciously only part way toward our goal and then leap in the dark to our success.
Henry David Thoreau, Journals (via philosophybits)
Then one day, suddenly, it ends, it changes, I don’t understand, it dies, or it’s me, I don’t understand that either. I ask the words that remain— sleeping, waking, morning, evening. They have nothing to say.
Endgame (Samuel Beckett)
No satisfaction based upon self-deception is solid, and, however unpleasant the truth may be, it is better to face it once for all, to get used to it, and to proceed to build your life in accordance with it.

Duncan taught me this philosophy when I moved to L.A and I have become the Van Helsing of emotional vampires! Zero tolerance for manipulators and liars! I am systematically evicting them from my life and I’ve never been in a better place. And if I do let someone manipulate it, its on my own terms and for my own advantage. Everyone should adopt this practice, will change your life:

Two things inspire me to awe: the starry heavens above and the moral universe within.
