Badass Protection Ring Enchantment {Glamour Spell}

Pssssst! This was first posted when my blog was titled, “witchthatiam”. I deleted it when I cleared out my blog to start fresh, but I figure this one is worth sharing again! Now, on to the post … 💜

I have this awesome black ring I got at a thrift shop, and I have been desperately wanting to do something witchy with it for a while now. I want to wear it all the time, and I think protection is the best thing to wear it for! It’s also kind of huge, and gives off a ‘don’t mess with me’ vibe, so I definitely think this enchantment is best! Have fun with it if you’re going to do it yourself!

What you’ll need:

One Ring (a particularly foreboding-looking one if you can find it. If not, any ring will work)

Salt (black salt would be awesome)

One Purple or Black Candle (or any colour you associate with sheer power)

One Bowl/Plate

Light your candle and place your ring in the bowl. As you sprinkle salt onto the ring, say:

“Ring of power, 

Ring of might, 

Protect me now, 

From every plight. 

Plague Ill-wishers,

Bring them dread,

Ward them off,

Alive and dead.

Take your energy

From this flame,

know who I am

By this name:

(Your name)”

Add your energy into the ring, and visualize protective forces surrounding and entering it. Try to channel the energy from the flame if you can, and then put it on! Throw away the salt, and you are finished.

Banished With a Blessing

A spell to bring someone an oppurtunity! That leads them far, far away from you… 

So maybe someone is wearing you down, overstaying their welcome in your life, or just being a pain in the ass. BUT they haven’t done anything to warrant being cursed. That can only mean it’s time to kill them with kindness, or at least chase them away with a blessing!

You will need:

✨Three candles

✨A length of ribbon

✨A coin

✨A box

✨An item representing you

✨An item representing the person you want to banish

To begin:

✨Set up your space to your own witchy preferences, and do whatever you do to prepare for spellwork. 

✨Form a circle, and lay out an item that represents you on one side, and an item that represents them on the opposite side. Put one candle behind each item, and one at the top of the circle. 

✨Stretch the ribbon across the circle, and connect it to both items. Light the candle that sits at the top of the circle. 

✨Sit quietly in front of the spread, and visualize the person in your mind’s eye. There they are, getting on your last nerve. The two of you are surrounded by a shared golden light. But wait, what’s that!?

✨Roll the coin towards their item and out of the circle, “distracting them”

✨As quickly as you can, blow out the candle at the top of the circle, signifying “the winds of change”. Disconnect the ribbon from both items, and turn it 180 degrees so that it now forms a barrier between the items. 

✨Light the candle behind your item, and then the one behind the other. Pick up the coin and pass it through the flame. 

✨When you are satisfied, put your item into a box, and the item representing the other on top of the box. They now have the whole wide world to explore in search of their blessing, while you enjoy being rid of them. Blow the box a kiss and wave it goodbye.

✨Leave undisturbed until you’ve parted ways for good!

I think the other thing that’s on my mind regarding the whole “politics in religion” thing is that… everyone and their uncle claims to love the NTRW and want to give them as much as humanly possible, right?

And if the gods feed on ma’at, that means we should be generating as much ma’at as humanly possible, yeah? Because it ultimately feeds the gods and supports their Work.

And if someone goes “hey, you can make your ma’at go further by not electing officials that go against the tenets of ma’at” or goes “hey if we can make our spaces safer for marginalized people, it would generate more ma’at and allow more people to celebrate the gods” why does everyone suddenly lose their shit and consider it to be “too far”?

Why are you all so afraid of including politics in your religion? Why are you all so afraid to admit that politics literally influences every aspect of your life and the lives of those around you?

Why won’t you utilize the power that you have to influence public policy for the better? Why would you squander that ma’at that you could help create? Do you even acknowledge, recognize, or understand that by giving up that power to help create a better world, you’re actively letting isfet generate within our country/world????? 

Why is “politics” the place where religion suddenly can’t go? Esp when there is a historical precedence for politics in our religion (lmao because we have a divine king, therefore politics and religion are tied at the hip but w/e I guess)

And above all, if you are of the notion that politics shouldn’t be included in religion (despite blatant historical proof that the two can be tied together, and that voting for ppl that ruin the social safety net or enforce racist policy is isfet given form), I’d love to know why you’re actively choosing to ignore a really big place where you could actively be helping to generate more ma’at in the world. It feels to me like these people are choosing to ignore this so that they can remain comfortable, and I’m honest-to-gods trying to understand what tf is making all of you (generalized) believe that voting and acting in the world with ma’at in mind is no man’s land where you can’t go.

And ofc, if you won’t go there, I wanna know what all you are doing to generate ma’at beyond doing shrine work. Because if your religion only exists in your shrine and doesn’t come out to play a role in how you act in the your life or towards the rest of the world, you’re frankly doing a piss-poor job at being a Kemetic (yeah, I said it).

Cuz, like, if you’re not willing to make our spaces safe for marginalized people, and you’re not willing to go out and vote so that our marginalized members can have a good life, and you’re not willing to make yourself uncomfortable by reexamining what you think is “right” in this general area, then what are you doing to create ma’at, because from here it seems like all y’all ain’t doing shit except complaining about people like me.

Seriously. Why is politics not allowed. Why are you afraid to help people. ANd if you’re gonna dig your heels in and continue to support shitty things that actively let isfet loose into our world, I want to know what you personally are doing to counteract that (beyond shrine work), and yelling on the internet doesn’t count.

Perhaps 2019 should be the year that we bring Kemeticism out of the shrine and into our daily lives. Challenge yourselves to do more than just shrine work. See how much you can drag ma’at into the world around you. Push yourself to make yourself uncomfortable. Fucking clothe the naked and feed the hungry. And vote for the people who will actually help make those things legal to do.

this spell is meant to help you calm your stressed out mind or just a enjoyable drink for a beautiful day. even if your not a witch, feel free to use this.

step 1. Brew up a cup of your usual tea, [for example mine’s king cole] then pour in a cup.

step 2. Add milk if you want.

step 3. put a drop of honey or maple syrup in the tea to add a little love and stability into your life.

step 4. next drizzle a little honey or maple syrup around the rim of the cup.

step 5. add a little dusting of cinnamon on the tip of your tea for a little success and protection.

Raspberry Lemon Friendship Muffins

I’ve been making these muffins a lot this summer, so I thought I would share them with you all! Everyone seems to really like them, and I feel like they’ve done their job of strengthening and reviving my friendships with others.

This recipe makes 12 standard size muffins. Feel free to make substitutions to the recipe as you see fit! 

Recipe:

2 and ¼ cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon baking soda

A pinch of salt

1 cup sugar

½ cup oil (coconut, canola, vegetable)

1 cup light sour cream (can be substituted with plain greek yogurt)

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon lemon juice

Zest of 1 lemon

1 and ½ cups (12 oz) fresh raspberries

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees fahrenheit. Grease a muffin pan or use parchment/foil muffins cups to line the pan.

In a large bowl mix together the flour, baking powder/soda, and salt. Make sure all of the ingredients are evenly distributed.

In a medium size bowl mix together the sugar, oil, sour cream, eggs, vanilla, lemon juice and lemon zest. Whisk until the sugar dissolves.

Pour the mixture over the dry ingredients and fold until combined. Be careful not to over mix!

Fold in the raspberries until evenly distributed. (A tip I use to make sure all the berries don’t sink to the bottom is that I mix them with a little bit of flour before I fold them into the mix.

Use an ice cream scoop to evenly divide the mixture into you’re already greased/lined muffin pan.

Bake for 18-25 minutes depending on oven type. To check to see if the muffins are done you can insert a toothpick into a few of them. If the toothpick comes out clean, then they are done!

Magic and Correspondences:

Lemon- Purification, healing, removal of any negative influences or blockages. The yellow from the zest corresponds with friendship and healing.

Raspberries- Growth, the strengthening of relationships. The red of the berries is associated with passion, desire, renewal, and joy. 

Sugar- Sweetens not only the muffins, but the magic of them too. It can sweeten the bond and energy in your relationship.

 Vanilla- Love, passion, peace, and luck.

You can also draw some friendship sigils on the parchment/foil cups if you use them. While mixing the muffins channel your intent to revive and strengthen your friendships with others. Feel free to pair this with a spoken spell, but I prefer to just focus my intent and channel it’s energy into the muffins when I’m adding the ingredients, mixing them, and while I watch them bake.

TAROT DECK CHECK UP.

So many things in our lives are given check-ups; our cars, the health of ourselves or pets, our computers and digital devices but sometimes we need to check up on our divinatory tools. While the idea of divination checkups is nothing new, I have created my own thorough methods that work for me. It is my greatest hope that this post can help you on your journey. As with all my posts, use what resonates, and dismiss the rest.  If you find this post useful, I’d greatly appreciate you reblogging this post.

TAROT DECK PHYSICAL

This portion of the check-up is where I physically inspect the deck.

Working With A Full Deck: Sometimes we misplace cards after a reading, our pet hides them or we lose them during our travels. I find it best to periodically count that I have all the cards in my deck.  I like to count the deck three times just to make sure and then if I have the time, reorder it.  My counting method is having three sets of twenty cards and one set of eighteen.

The Upside: If you are someone who does not read reversals, now would be a great time to ensure that all the cards in your deck are upright.

Rip And Repair: With heavy use, our cards can get a fair bit of wear. I look at the physical condition of the deck in question. I then determine if there are any minor repairs I can do and proceed accordingly. If your deck is warped because of conditions like high humidity you may want to place your cards in the darkest coolest place of your house, preferably wrapped tight. This isn’t ideal for everyone but being someone who has dealt with this issue, it has helped me.  I like to ask myself these questions during the physical check-up. Are there any cards that are damaged or are wearing badly? Has the deck warped from conditions such as humidity or accidental water damage? How can I help prevent this? Are there chipping, bends, creases that affect my reading ability or ability to shuffle? Can tape or light adhesive salvage the card? Should I ask for a replacement card from the deck company in question? Should I put this deck out of commision and get a backup copy?

Deck Bowing: If you have dealt with deck bowing, you know how frustrating that “popping” is when you try to shuffle your deck or leave it on a table and it curves oddly. If I find that a deck is bowing badly, I wrap it in a cloth and clamp it down with binder clips or place it under a heavy book for 24 hours. Another way to help with bowing is to shuffle the deck backwards than how you would normally shuffle so that the deck evens out.

Icky, Sticky And Smelly: Again, with heavy use, our cards can collect a lot of grime, dirt, and oils from our hands and the hands of others. I like to take a moment to inspect the deck and its shuffling ability.  I like to use a microfiber cloth and go over the fronts and backs of the cards. If the cards or deck boxes are collecting dust on a shelf, you may want to dust off your shelf and the cards. If the cards are particularly sticky, fanning powder works wonders to help solve this issue. If the deck is smelly, I like to do two things. I like to put the deck in a ziplock bag with some baking soda. This helps to neutralize the smell. Another option that I do quite frequently is to put my decks inside the basket I keep my incense in. After about a week, my deck smells divine!

Home Inspection: I like to look at and inspect the box, bag or wrap that my deck is in. I determine if the deck needs a new home. Unicarton or cardboard deck boxes can be reinforced with tape, glue or adhesive. Just make sure they are dry before placing your deck back in them. Wooden or plastic deck boxes can be wiped down with a lightly damp cloth. Sometimes my decks like a change of scenery so I like to switch up their deck bags. If you find that the deck bag you are currently using is a little snug, you may want to get something a bit bigger to accommodate your deck better. Just like our decks, our deck bags and cloths get dirty over time. If it is safe to do so, wash your deck bags and cloths, and spot treat them if that is an option for you.

TAROT DECK CHECK UP SPREAD

Now that the physical checkup is complete, we can move on to the more traditional method of checking up on your deck. This is a spread that I created that can be used in two ways. You can use the deck you are checking up on to answer the questions or have a secondary tool like another deck, or a pendulum answer the questions for the deck and have the main deck be its own huge signifier card. It is up you. I have used both methods with success.

Position One and Two: Cleansing Analysis Sometimes our decks can hold on to a lot of energy. This spread position helps you determine if your deck needs to be cleansed.

1. Does my deck need to be cleansed? 2. If so, what would be the best method to cleanse my deck?

Position Three and Four: Energy Gauge Just like us readers, our decks can become tired and burned out from reading marathons or repeat use. This spread position helps you see the energy levels of your deck and how to replenish it.

3. What is the current energy gauge of my deck? 4. What can I do to help recharge the deck of its energy easily and effectively?

Position Five, Six and Seven: Deck Purpose, Compatibility And Usage Sometimes we use our decks for one purpose or in a specific period of our lives and as we evolve as readers our decks become extensions of ourselves and practices. Some decks become more suitable for one type of reading over another or the deck evolves to serve a different purpose for you and your practices. This spread position allows you to see if your deck’s purpose and uses are still appropriate at present.

5. What is the current purpose for my deck/What does it want to be used for? 6. Does my deck still want to be used for (insert subject here)/ is it still compatible with those types of readings/uses? 7. How can I use my deck to its best ability effectively?

Position Eight, Nine and Ten: Deck Bonding There are times when we put the cards aside and live our lives away from divination. I have had times when I didn’t use my cards for months at a time. This spread position helps see if your deck needs some bonding time and how to better your relationship with it.

8. Does my deck need me to renew our bond? 9. How can I bond with my deck in the best possible way? 10. How can I improve my relationship with my deck?

PARTING WAYS

As I mentioned before, sometimes our decks are there for us during certain phases of our lives. Sometimes certain decks bring up triggering memories or parts of our lives we are moving on from. Some decks no longer speak to us the way that they used to. Some decks we just never got a chance to connect with no matter how much we tried. This is all normal.

The last part of the deck check-up is to be done privately between you and your deck. Take some time to really think about your relationship and if it is a deck you want to continue using or keep in your collection. There is no right or wrong answer or a time limit for this. Once you have decided, you may want to ask your deck a final question of “What is the next step on its journey?“It is perfectly okay to pass on a deck that no longer serves you. It is okay to gift it or dispose of it. A Witch’s Ingredients: Charcoal

Charcoal is what is left over after burning wood in a fire or other plant material that has been used in not only witchcraft but medicine and art for centuries. This ingredient is often a well forgotten or overlooked one, but it is truly an easy obtainable ingredient to harness for your craft.

The Basics

Elements: Charcoal is often related to 3 main elements- Fire, Earth and Air. Often it is related to earth due to the charcoal being created from wood, air due to the porous light nature and its relation to smoke and to fire due to fire being the energy that creates and transforms it. Though often most associate charcoal with fire.

The History of Charcoal Use

In Witchcraft

In witchcraft charcoal was often used for ink making to write in grimoires by mixing the charcoal (or ash) with water and vinegar. Sticks of charcoal were used for drawing, inscribing and warding. Crushed charcoal would be mixed into salt to create black salt and casted about the home or property to absorb negative energies and ward against negative entities. Lining windows or doorways with charcoal dust was said to keep away illness and misfortune and cleanse those who entered the home.

In Medicine

Charcoal has been used in medicine for centuries, some of the latest uses dating to the times of Pharaohs in Ancient Egypt. In ancient times it was often used to prevent wounds from festering by pressing charcoal into the wound and wrapping it with clothe. Egyptians and Native Americans both have history of grinding up charcoal into dust to mix with water (or milk) to drink to cure a number of ailments including food poisoning, influenza, stomach cramping and other digestive issues.

Throughout Europe charcoal was used as a ‘cure all’ for numerous ailments including epilepsy, seizures, contraception and infection. Though charcoal definitely isn’t a cure all, it was popularly used to help settle upset stomachs, calm vomiting and aid in digestion. Later several doctors discovered the use of charcoal to counteract poisons by ingesting it with a poison, greatly nullifying the effects of the poison making them minimal in nature. During the 1800s was when activated charcoal became the main type of charcoal used for medical purposes.

Modern Uses of Charcoal

In Witchcraft

Modernly, charcoal is still used for many of the same things. Witches of all kinds use charcoal for sigil drawing and for circle casting and a sorted few still use charcoal to create ink and paint for their grimoires and spell writing.

Black Salt is still popularly made by witches by mixing salt with charcoal (1:1). Black salt is used to absorb negative energy, banish out negative entities and to ward against unwanted guests entering your home. Black salt is often used to line entry points of the home or the outlines of the property to ward and to cleanse a room or home spreading it about the home then sweeping or vacuuming it up after about an hour is the popular technique. Often charcoal is used in sachet spells to help boost their energy and prevent them from getting ‘dirtied’ by negative energy too quickly similar to adding salt to a spell sachet or even jar spells. It can also be placed or used in a spell to represent the element of fire or upon an altar for the same purpose.

In Cosmic Witchcraft it is common to use charcoal to align with the planet Saturn and sometimes Jupiter. Often it is used in spells related to justice, cleansing and ridding oneself of negativity. The blackness of charcoal can also be used to represent the blackness of the night sky itself or to represent black holes in negativity removal spells.

In Bath magick it is popular to use charcoal face masks, charcoal soap or charcoal bath salts to help cleanse oneself and remove negative energies tied to them. Glamor spells using charcoal often are for concealment and to vanish from the gaze of those who you wish not to see you such as protection at night or protection from judgement. In these cases charcoal is often added to sachets or small travel jar spells for invisibility or used for drawn sigils held on the person.

Artist’s charcoal can be used to replace standard charcoal in spells such as making black salt or for the purpose of sigil making. Though artist’s charcoal should never be used in cases of bath magick or to be ingested due to safety reasons. Grilling charcoal should never be used in place of natural charcoal due to it being often mixed with gasoline or other lighting fluids. It is not safe to get onto the skin and certainly not to ingest under any circumstances.

Medical Purposes

Charcoal is still used today for medical uses of calming stomachs and easing digestive issues though mostly activated charcoal is used now. One should not ingest wood charcoal straight from a fire! Especially not if lighter fluid or kerosine was used in the fire. If one wishes to use charcoal for medical use at home purchase it properly from a pharmacy. Charcoal is still used in hospitals for its properties of absorbing toxins ingested such as when a person has alcohol poisoning or believed to have ingested poisons, this again tends to be a mix of activated charcoal.

Health and Beauty

In skin care charcoal is used to replenish and cleanse the skin, often used for clearing out pores of bacteria, dirt and sweat to help fight and prevent blackheads and acne. It is often used in facial masks of varying kinds due to its properties of clearing out the skin, these types of masks include but are not limited to: charcoal peeling masks, charcoal mud masks, charcoal cotton masks, charcoal bubbling masks and more. This is also why charcoal soap is quite popular for those wishing to cleanse their skin. The charcoal used in these beauty masks is a type of activated charcoal though it is often mixed with several other ingredients to fight acne and blackheads.
