UPDATE!

Hey everyone!! 

First, let me just apologize for not posting as often anymore like I used to! My life has just gotten so hectic, and I've been so busy this entire year with work, school, and writing for my university newspaper and Radio Station.  Although it may seem like I don't want to pursue my passion for art anymore, it isn't true! I've been struggling to find a balance between all things journalism and all things art, that it's been difficult, and I haven't had the opportunity to paint since summer ended last year.  

However, with the use of my free time last summer, I was able to paint a lot more, and finished about three pieces... and in May, one of the paintings I submitted in February won first prize for my University's, Statement Magazine, in the category of painting.  The money was awarded by the Colonnade Art Gallery in Pasadena and they invited me to showcase my winning piece as well as some of my other art pieces at their gallery opening which was on June 1st.  My paintings will be on display and for sale until the end of the month.  

I know it's just a small gallery, and my paintings may not even compare to others who paint all the time, but, I am beyond blessed, and so happy that I've been given an opportunity like this.  I never imagined that my art would be in a gallery this year, or ever for that matter, and just when I was thinking of dismissing my love for painting completely to focus on things that are of greater importance in life, this happens, and I'm glad it did.  

With that being, I do plan on continuing this art blog of mine even though I may be on an abrupt hiatus with posting things and what not. I'll try my hardest to keep you updated, blog about anything art related, and paint more often, but other than that, thank you so much for being so supportive of me, and still continue to follow my art blog! 

Anyway, below are just some pictures from the gallery opening with my wonderful family who never fails to support me by just being there and making it to events like these.

I’ve been super busy, but I’m sketching whenever I can! Here is a sample of what I’ve been working on this past week and a half. I was trying to experiment with how FAKE fur/feathers can look on an outfit.

Notes on "Carousel" ~ 08.01.12

When I paint, I always keep in mind that it's a painting, not a photograph.  If I wanted every little thing of my painting to be precise, I would take a picture.  But since it's a painting, I like to keep my style almost abstract.  

This Carousel painting took me forever.  I was of course painting from the guidelines of a photograph, and it was a really detailed picture.  Mostly because carousels have a lot of detail.  So i tried to sculpt the paint onto the canvas and manipulate it that way rather than paint every single detail to make it an interesting piece.

I'm never great at painting faces... I don't even draw the faces on my models when I draw fashion sketches.  So, I decided not to paint the faces of the horses on the carousel.  Instead, I focused on the shape of the animals so that the eyes of the audience are able to travel throughout the whole painting and not just one focal point.  

I like to paint freely with no rules.  I guess that's why I really don't like painting faces.  I like to paint landscapes and make it 10 x more beautiful and interesting on canvas.  

Like I mentioned... if I wanted to paint something that looked exactly like what was presented in life, I would just take a picture.

I know I haven't been posting a lot of new paintings, but I've been working on a lot of things. mostly fashion sketches like these, and I've started painting some new pieces as well.  But I don't want to rush with these paintings because I want them to be absolutely perfect.  So, I'll try posting some of my sketches even though they aren't paintings to keep my art blog updated.  And if you're a fashion fan like me, follow my fashion blog, www.ajtalksfashion.tumblr.com ! Whenever I go to a museum, I like to sit in one of their rooms on one of the benches they usually have in the middle and take a deep breath.  

When I went to the LACMA for the first time, I was so starstruck by the magnificence of all the paintings of Monet, Cezanne, and Renoir.  It was as if being close to the painters.  Like they were there with you.  Picasso even had this one painting from his blue period where it looked like the paint was still wet from painting those brush strokes.  It was so beautiful.

Hey everyone! I know I haven't been updating my tumblr (s) a lot lately, but I've been busy! So, I'm just taking some time off my schedule to update this art blog of mine. 

So, two weeks ago I had an art show :O) my very first art show in the housing area of the dorms where I live on campus.  Other artists like myself were able to exhibit their work that Wednesday afternoon, and hangout.  It wasn't anything too fancy, but it was still an experience I'll never forget.  I knew it wasn't going to be a big event, but I still wanted to participate just in case anyone in particular would stop by such as professors, artists, art buyers, etc. Fortunately, someone did take note of my art work at the end of the evening and asked me to paint something for them. 

But yeah, it was a great experience, and I respect those artists who are struggling as painters or sculptors, but are so brave for letting people view their artwork on a daily basis.  I mean, setting up my display was exhausting! and packing everything up at the end was just as difficult. But, in all fairness, it was still fun. 

Hopefully this summer will allow me to paint more like I'd like to.  And hopefully I'll keep you updated on new projects, events, and anything art related that I take part in regularly.. or when i can.
