In November of last year I decided I wanted to up my #knitting skills. I've been knitting for more than 30 years on and off but I have never ventured into garments or anything complicated. It's late January and I've since made a sweater for my daughter (with 3.00mm knitting needles no less) thanks to the wonderful #everydayplaydatesweater by @ltblogged, I finished my first fair Isle beanie a few days back and yesterday I've finished this amazing duo color dotty beanie by @allaboutami. With all the talk about racism in the knitting community these past week (thank you @su.krita once more for bringing it to my attention) I felt overwhelmed with the task of teaching my daughter about inclusiveness. I shouldn't have though. Leave it to a toddler to see the world with gentle and loving eyes! She never seizes to amaze me with her empathy and love for every being in this world! Let's all reach within us and find the kid we used to be, the kid who played with everyone and never thought anything of the ones who were different. Τις τελευταίες μέρες έχει ξεκινήσει μία πολύ σοβαρή και αναγκαία συζήτηση στη διεθνή πλεκτική κοινότητα αναφορικά με το ρατσισμό. Επηρεασμένη από αυτό και από προσωπικά βιώματα νιώθω μεγάλη ανάγκη να διδάξω στη κόρη μου την αποδοχή και την ομορφιά της διαφορετικότητας. Ένα βιβλίο για ένα αγόρι με ρόδες στα πόδια που στα όνειρα του βλέπει ότι τρέχει και κάνει ποδήλατο και ένα κορίτσι που στα όνειρα της βλέπει ότι η τσάντα της δεν είναι άδεια. Μια ιστορία για την φιλία, την αγάπη και την αποδοχή της διαφορετικότητας. Ένα δείγμα του πόσο όμορφη και καλύτερη θα ήταν η ζωή χωρίς bullying, χωρίς κοινωνική απομόνωση και χωρίς ρατσισμό. We didn't choose to practice Montessori for our daughter. We kind of fell into it naturally as we did with attachment parenting too. And it does feel exactly like that: natural!  Στην πραγματικότητα δεν επιλέξαμε τη μέθοδο Montessori για τη κόρη μας. Η μέθοδος μας ταίριαξε τόσο φυσικά που εμείς απλά την ακολουθήσαμε. Χωρίς ιδιαίτερες φόρμες και ταμπέλες, με ενσυναίσθηση και σεβασμό για το παιδί, έγινε μέρος της ανατροφής της όπως και το attachment parenting. Φυσικά, χωρίς πιέσεις και χωρίς πρέπει.  Ένα από τα πράγματα που απολαμβάνουμε περισσότερο είναι να διαβάζουμε βιβλία. Είμαι πολύ χαρούμενη που ανακάλυψα τη σειρά βιβλίων "Τα βιβλία μου Montessori" των εκδόσεων Κεντικελένη. Με πολύ προσεγμένη γραφή και χαριτωμένη εικονογράφηση καλλιεργούν στα παιδιά την επιθυμία για μάθηση.  Οι μικροί ήρωες των ιστοριών αυτών, ο Νικόλας και η Χλόη, με τη μεγάλη τους αδερφή και τους πάντα διαθέσιμους γονείς τους, γίνονται ανεξάρτητοι μέσα από την εξερεύνηση του περιβάλλοντος, την στήριξη και την ενθάρρυνση. Μαθαίνουν να κάνουν καθημερινές λειτουργίες της ρουτίνας τους μόνοι τους, μαθαίνουν να συζητούν και αναπτύσσουν δομή στη σκέψη τους μέσω της ευταξίας. After baking traditional melomakarona and ginger cookies it's time to make some chocolate! I used @indigo_herbs organic chocolate making kit and added organic pistachios. They were very easy to make and are delicious!!! I can't wait for our families to try them on Christmas day. Best part? Everything is organic and they are even #sugarfree since the kit uses organic raw agave syrup. It will be the first time our daughter will taste chocolate and I want to capture it on video!!! One of the things on my advent calendar with activities for my toddler was a festive puzzle solving. I was delighted to open up this puzzle with the nutcracker and Natalia was too. She needs a bit of guidance to see it to the end since it's a lot of pieces but we both enjoy it very much! What are you doing with your little ones this holidays? Imagine all the people living life in peace. You may say I am a dreamer but I am not the only one. I hope someday you will join us and the world will be as one. The song "Imagine" by John Lennon plays on repeat in my mind today. I stumbled upon the amazing and gut wrenching work of @morshed_mishu and I am gutted by what our world could be if humanity prevailed instead of greed. Recently the song was translated to Greek and became an illustrated book for kids. Another great Christmas gift if you ask me! In a world filled with "kavanaughs" and thousands of #metoo stories, we as parents need to make sure our kids know they have the right to their own bodies. They need to know they can say no to their aunts prompt to "give her a kiss", they need to know it's not okay for ANYONE to touch them ANYWHERE without their consent. Yes, even if they are 2.5 year old babies! No, the feelings of their relatives are not more important than teaching the children their rights! Finally there's a book in Greek that says so! Now you know what you should get the grandparents this Christmas!
