watched the movie with telemachus in it, pretty good tbh but oh dear god if nolan adapts the iliad i might just jump off a building

which translation of the odyssey should i read?

for the full experience of the story, id definitely recommend the translation by Robert Fagles! it is a bit dense but honestly i found it much more immersive compared to some other translations, which format it to resemble a traditional poem rather than a story. all are quite similar in regards to the overarching events, just slight tweaks to tone and wording vary from different translations. people online argue a lot about small details in different versions, but don’t be too intimidated by them, as greek mythology as a whole isn’t the most consistent thing in the world and should honestly be interpreted however you read it. back when they were originally written, the odyssey and the iliad’s primary purposes were to entertain, and i genuinely dont think the writer(s) of these epics would have anticipated random 21st century individuals debating about whether antinous planned to sa telemachus or not. guys he was a shitty person either way, why does the exact detail of his already fucked up intent matter this much. anyway, i hope this helped!
